
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Manager
Overview
Avanath is a real estate private equity firm focused on the preservation of affordable housing across the United States. Avanath owns and manages over 15,000 apartment units totaling $4.0 Billion of assets under management across three investment funds. Avanath manages the investment of large institutional pension funds, retirement systems, endowments, etc.
The Role
The Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Manager will play a key role in driving portfolio performance analysis, forecasting, and strategic decision-making for the firm’s private equity funds. This position requires a deep understanding of real estate and affordable housing fundamentals, fund-level analytics, and financial modeling, as well as strong leadership and cross-functional collaboration across property/fund accounting, asset management, property management, and investor relations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, or a related field; MBA or CFA preferred.
- 5–8 years of experience in FP&A, consulting, investment analysis, or financial management, preferably within real estate private equity, REITs, or investment management.
- Strong understanding of real estate financial modeling, fund waterfalls, IRR/MOIC analysis, and valuation concepts.
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; proficient with BI/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau). Familiarity with Yardi a plus.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
- Proven leadership skills with experience mentoring or managing junior team members.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Key Accountabilities
Financial Planning & Forecasting:

- Develop and maintain fund- and portfolio-level financial forecasts, including cash flow projections, fund models, and performance metrics to support strategic planning and capital allocation decisions.
- Maintain and enhance fund-level models used for valuations, distributions, and long-term performance projections.
Performance Reporting:

- Oversee the preparation of quarterly and annual performance packages summarizing portfolio results, variances, and key drivers across assets, funds, and entities.
- Collaborate with accounting and asset management teams to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
Property-Level Reporting:

- Manage the consolidation, review, and analysis of property-level financials and operating metrics.
- Partner with asset management to monitor performance, identify trends, and communicate key insights to senior leadership.
Budgeting & Variance Analysis:

- Alongside Property Management and Education teams, lead the annual budgeting process for the property portfolio.
- Analyze actual results against budget, identifying performance drivers, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
Investor Reporting & Presentations:

- Support the preparation of materials for investor updates, quarterly reports, and fundraising decks, including performance summaries, benchmarks, and scenario analyses.
Property Valuations:

- Manage the third-party appraisal process by providing appraisers with relevant data and property information, monitoring market and valuation trends, and leading the Valuation Committee to review and approve portfolio valuations.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- The incumbent in this is classified as essential staff and is expected to report to work and adhere to all safety and business protocols.
- This position is based out of our Irvine office.
- Frequent sitting and walking.
- Occasional travel to other business offices and events via airline, trains, and automobiles
- Repetitive use of computer, keyboard, mouse, and phone
- Reading, comprehending, writing, performing calculations, communicating verbally.
- May work in an elevated site, may walk on uneven ground.
- Occasional squatting, bending neck/waist, twisting neck/waist, pushing, and pulling.
