Director of Engineering – Infrastructure & Developer Platform

What You'll Do...
Position Summary
We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead our Infrastructure and Developer Platform team as a foundational member of the Clumio Engineering leadership. This role is responsible for the quality, availability, scalability, and reliability of the Clumio Data Platform, which operates in the AWS public cloud. The ideal candidate is a strong technical leader and strategic thinker with deep experience in cloud infrastructure, developer experience tooling, and operational excellence.
In addition to overseeing core infrastructure, this role will lead efforts to evolve our internal developer platform—owning tools and systems across source control, CI/CD, observability, and data infrastructure. The Director will drive long-term vision and execution for platform scalability and developer efficiency, collaborating closely with engineering, product, security, QA, and customer-facing teams.
This is a highly visible leadership position, with direct responsibility for leading a team of engineers, managing cross-functional initiatives, and driving continuous improvement in both technical systems and team processes. The role requires strong people management skills, a deep technical foundation, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, infrastructure-as-code-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow the Infrastructure and Developer Platform engineering team, fostering a culture of ownership, innovation, and accountability
- Set the strategic direction for infrastructure and internal tooling, aligning with company goals and engineering productivity metrics
- Partner with product, engineering, security, and QA leaders to deliver scalable platform features with high availability and operational excellence
- Oversee infrastructure provisioning, reliability, CI/CD, observability, and developer workflow tooling
- Drive cloud infrastructure initiatives including security hardening, performance optimization, and cost efficiency across AWS
- Establish and maintain incident management and postmortem practices to ensure operational resilience and learning
- Guide architecture and implementation of scalable systems using Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, and Python
- Lead technical roadmap planning and execution for developer tooling and platform automation
- Own and evolve escalation policies, deployment processes, and operational SLAs
- Evaluate emerging technologies and advocate for adoption when aligned with long-term engineering efficiency
- Support Sales and Customer Success by maintaining demo environments and providing incident communication context
- Hire, mentor, and develop high-performing engineers; promote career growth and team engagement
Who you Are...
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3+ years in technical leadership or people management roles
- Proven track record leading platform, infrastructure, or DevOps teams in cloud-native environments
- Strong expertise in AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Linux, Python, and modern observability tooling
- Experience building and scaling developer platforms, CI/CD systems, and internal tooling ecosystems
- Deep understanding of cloud architecture, networking, monitoring frameworks, and security best practices
- Skilled at managing cross-functional initiatives and aligning technical decisions with business outcomes
- Excellent communication and leadership skills; able to influence stakeholders at all levels
- Familiarity with ITIL practices, ISO/IEC 27001, and SaaS compliance frameworks is a plus
- B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience

US Pay Range
$166,345 - $292,100 USD
