The Opportunity

Commvault Systems India Private Limited is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Tax Manager to oversee the comprehensive management of direct and indirect tax matters for its India entity. This role will also involve close collaboration with the Global Tax Director to coordinate aspects related to international taxation, ensuring compliance, optimization, and alignment with Commvault’s global tax strategy.

The ideal candidate will bring a robust technical understanding of Indian tax laws, proven experience in managing a wide range of tax functions, and a proactive approach to working across global teams in a dynamic technology environment. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the company’s growth, compliance culture, and international expansion.

What you’ll be doing...,

  • Tax Compliance & Reporting
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of all direct and indirect tax returns (including Income Tax, TDS, GST, etc.) for Commvault Systems India Private Limited.
  • Monitor changes in Indian tax legislation and regulations; assess their potential impact and communicate relevant changes to management.
  • Prepare, review, and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual statutory tax filings as required by Indian authorities.
  • Manage tax audits, assessments, and inquiries from tax authorities.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and consultants for statutory and internal audits related to taxes.

Tax Planning & Advisory

  • Advise business and finance leadership on tax matters to optimize the effective tax rate and minimize risks, while ensuring full compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for tax efficiency and process improvements within the organization.
  • Support business transactions (such as mergers, acquisitions, and restructurings) from a tax perspective.
  • Conduct research on complex tax issues and develop clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Indirect Tax Management
  • Oversee compliance, filing, and advisory aspects related to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and other applicable indirect taxes.
  • Reconcile input tax credits and ensure proper documentation is maintained for GST audits and assessments.
  • Advise internal teams on GST implications for services, procurement, invoicing, and supply chain transactions.
  • Direct Tax Management
  • Oversee corporate income tax compliance, advance tax calculations, and payments.
  • Manage Transfer Pricing compliance, including timely documentation and submission of transfer pricing reports.
  • Ensure proper withholding tax compliance on cross-border payments and local vendor payments.
  • Handle all aspects of TDS compliance, certificates, and reconciliations.
  • International Taxation & Collaboration
  • Work closely with the Global Tax Director and global tax team on international taxation matters and cross-border initiatives.
  • Assist in the implementation and management of global tax policies and strategies as they pertain to the India entity.
  • Support global transfer pricing, cross-border transaction planning, and documentation in compliance with OECD guidelines and local regulations.
  • Liaise with group entities abroad for intercompany transactions, compliance, and reporting requirements.
  • Risk Management, Documentation & Controls
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for all tax positions and filings in alignment with statutory requirements and company policy.
  • Assess and manage tax risks, implementing internal controls and best practices.
  • Prepare and support responses to regulatory notices, audits, and litigation as needed.
  • Stakeholder Management & Training
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all tax-related queries within the India business unit.
  • Provide training and guidance to finance and business teams on evolving tax matters and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments (legal, HR, procurement, etc.) to ensure tax compliance and risk mitigation across business operations.

Who you are ?

  • Chartered Accountant (CA), CPA, or equivalent professional qualification.
  • At least 8+ years of hands-on experience in Indian direct and indirect taxation, with exposure to international taxation preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Indian tax laws, GST regime, and transfer pricing requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience managing tax compliance, audits, assessments, and litigation.
  • Experience working in a multinational corporation or Big 4 tax advisory firm is a strong advantage.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a matrixed, global environment.
  • Proficiency in tax and accounting software; advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and ERP systems a plus.
  • High ethical standards, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
