We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated CloudOps Engineer with a specialized focus on Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and experience in automation. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, implementing, managing, and optimizing our AVD and other VDI environments. You will drive efficiency and reliability through robust automation practices, leveraging tools like Terraform, Bicep, and PowerShell. If you are passionate about cloud technologies, possess deep expertise in virtual desktop infrastructure, and thrive on automating complex systems, we encourage you to apply. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Management:
    • Design, deploy, configure, and manage AVD host pools, application groups, and workspaces.
    • Optimize AVD performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
    • Implement and manage user profiles using FSLogix profile containers.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve complex AVD-related issues, including connectivity, performance, and application delivery problems.
    • Manage golden images, application provisioning, and patching strategies for AVD.
    • Implement and maintain AVD security best practices, including Conditional Access, MFA, and other Entra features.
  • Automation & Infrastructure as Code (IaC):
    • Develop, implement, and maintain automation scripts and solutions using PowerShell to streamline operational tasks and reduce manual effort.
    • Design and implement infrastructure as code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, Bicep, and Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates for repeatable and consistent deployments of Azure resources, particularly for AVD.
    • Automate the deployment, configuration, and scaling of AVD components.
    • Integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines for continuous deployment and infrastructure updates.
    • Maintain version control for all automation scripts and IaC templates.
  • Cloud Operations & Support:
    • Monitor Azure environments for performance, security, and cost optimization, with a focus on AVD specific metrics.
    • Implement and manage Azure policies, role-based access control (RBAC), and other governance mechanisms.
    • Collaborate with development, security, and networking teams to ensure seamless integration and operation of cloud services.
    • Document configurations, processes, and troubleshooting steps thoroughly.
    • Stay current with the latest Azure services, features, and best practices, particularly in the AVD space.


Essential Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in a CloudOps, DevOps, or SRE role with a strong focus on Azure.
  • Deep expertise in Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), including design, deployment, management, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell for Azure automation and scripting.
  • Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools:
    • Terraform: Strong understanding of HCL, module development, and state management.
    • Bicep: Experience with Bicep language for Azure resource deployment.
    • Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates: Ability to read, modify, and create ARM templates.
  • Solid understanding of Azure networking concepts (VNets, subnets, NSGs, peering, ExpressRoute, VPN Gateways).
  • Experience with Entra ID / Azure Active Directory, AAD Connect, and identity management within Azure.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools like Azure Monitor, Log Analytics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
     

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) or Microsoft Certified: Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty (AZ-140).
  • Familiarity with Hyper-V, Azure Local (formally Azure Stack HCI), Storage Spaces Direct (S2D), and System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
  • Understanding of ITIL principles.
  • Experience with other cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) a plus.
