About Commvault

Commvault (NASDAQ: CVLT) is the gold standard in cyber resilience. The company empowers customers to uncover, take action, and rapidly recover from cyberattacks – keeping data safe and businesses resilient. The company’s unique AI-powered platform combines best-in-class data protection, exceptional data security, advanced data intelligence, and lightning-fast recovery across any workload or cloud at the lowest TCO. For over 25 years, more than 100,000 organizations and a vast partner ecosystem have relied on Commvault to reduce risks, improve governance, and do more with data.

About the Team

The Automation team at Clumio (Commvault) works closely with the backend team to help build and validate a cloud-scale SaaS backup platform that helps enterprises meet their cloud data protection needs. For many customers, backup is not a “nice-to-have” — it is a mandatory foundation driven by compliance, audit, and security requirements, where recovery speed, cost efficiency, and the ability to handle large-scale data are critical differentiators in real-world environments.

Our systems protect and recover large volumes of cloud object data in a cloud-native way. Compared to native cloud backup solutions, we deliver up to 10× faster recovery times, roughly half the cost for S3 workloads, and the ability to reliably support significantly larger data scales. These outcomes come from deliberate engineering decisions across system architecture, data flows, and failure-handling strategies.

The platform is designed to gracefully handle and recover from failures through reprocessing and retries, while maintaining correctness and reliability at scale. The team operates a proven platform built on Amazon S3 and DynamoDB and is now expanding into multi-cloud data protection across GCP and Azure — an opportunity to apply and evolve our approach across diverse cloud ecosystems.

Beyond our SaaS solutions, we are also building AI agents that help our customers get more value from their data and operations. As a team, we embrace modern engineering practices, including agentic AI-assisted coding, to build and ship faster — and you will help shape how we adopt and scale these tools and techniques.

Role Overview:

As a Principal Engineer on the Automation team, you will set the technical direction for how we validate and harden Clumio’s best-in-class SaaS platform for data protection in the public cloud. You are a hands-on technical leader who designs large-scale automation architecture, raises the engineering quality bar across the team, and mentors engineers at all levels. You will partner closely with Development, Product Management, and Customer Success leadership to anticipate risk, shape strategy, and ensure the platform performs reliably at scale and across multi-cloud environments.

Our automation is built primarily in Python and interacts with and manipulates AWS infrastructure that simulates customer environments, involving services such as EC2, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, Cognito, SQS, SNS, VPC, CloudFormation, Lambda, Kubernetes, and Docker. As a Principal Engineer, you will architect the next generation of our data-generation tools, scale-test environments, and REST API libraries, and lead our adoption of agentic AI-assisted coding and AI agents across the team.

What You’ll Do

  • Own and drive the technical vision and architecture for automation across the platform.
  • Design and build large-scale automation frameworks, tools, and scale-test environments.
  • Lead the design and implementation of end-to-end integration, load, and stress tests for backup and restore across AWS, GCP, and Azure.
  • Set and evangelize best practices in testing, automation, and product quality across multiple teams.
  • Drive adoption of agentic AI-assisted coding and AI agents to accelerate how the team builds and ships.
  • Partner with Development, Product Management, and Customer Success leadership on strategy, risk, and customer escalations.
  • Mentor and grow engineers through design discussions, code reviews, and technical coaching.
  • Influence cross-team technical decisions and align implementations with the broader engineering direction.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of industry experience designing and building automation and/or test frameworks for large-scale production systems.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Deep expertise in Python or Go and in designing scalable, maintainable automation architecture.
  • Proven track record as a hands-on technical leader who has set direction and raised the quality bar across teams.
  • Strong experience with public cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and cloud-native system design.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions across an organization.
  • Working knowledge of English.

Nice to Have
•    Hands-on experience with Docker and container orchestration such as Kubernetes.
•    Experience building or operating cloud data protection, backup, or large-scale storage systems.
•    Familiarity with agentic AI-assisted coding tools and building AI agents.

You’ll Love Working Here Because…

  • You’ll collaborate with amazing, driven, and supportive teammates.
  • You’ll shape the technical direction of high-impact, large-scale cloud data protection systems used by global enterprises.
  • You’ll enjoy continuous professional growth through development programs and clear career pathways.
  • You’ll thrive in an inclusive, open culture with opportunities to connect through our Community Guilds.
  • You’ll receive generous global benefits designed to support your well-being.
  • You’ll earn competitive compensation that reflects your impact.
  • You’ll share in our success through our Employee Stock Purchase Plan.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
