Compa Industries is searching for qualified candidates for Designer/Drafter 1 and Designer/Drafter 2 positions at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, NM.

Pay: $27/hr - $32/hr
Location: On-Site - Los Alamos, NM (TA-3 Otowi)
Citizenship: US Citizenship Required
Work Schedule: 4/10s, Monday–Thursday, 5:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE clearance (Active clearance preferred)


Impact

As a Designer/Drafter supporting the PIE-CRO organization at LANL, you will play a key role in developing and detailing routine drawings and layouts of basic components, facilities, and systems in support of mission-critical nuclear facility operations. Your work will directly contribute to mechanical system documentation, facility modifications, and infrastructure improvements within highly regulated technical areas, including TA-3 and TA-55 (PF4). This role supports national security initiatives by ensuring accurate and compliant design documentation in complex nuclear environments.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Produce and detail routine drawings and layouts of basic components, facilities, and/or systems

  • Generate and modify two-dimensional drawings based on input from engineers and senior designers

  • Develop basic computer-aided design (CAD) drawings and design models under the direction of senior designers

  • Support primarily mechanical drafting efforts, with some exposure to electrical and fire suppression systems

  • Conduct facility walkdowns in TA-55 (PF4) and various warehouse locations

  • Utilize government vehicles for transportation between technical areas

  • Work closely with team members and receive mentorship while shadowing senior staff during onboarding

  • Collaborate as part of a growing team structure, contributing to the development of a third team within the organization


Minimum Qualifications

  • US Citizenship required

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance (active clearance preferred)

  • Proficiency with drafting tools, specifically CAD (LANL uses AutoCAD)

  • Ability to work 100% onsite in Los Alamos, NM

  • Ability to perform walkdowns in radiological areas (PF4) and walk for extended periods

  • Strong teamwork skills, reliability, and dedication

Designer/Drafter 1:

  • High school diploma and 1–2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Designer/Drafter 2:

  • High school diploma and 3–5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience


Desired Skills

  • Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM)

  • CAD certification (any platform; AutoCAD experience highly desirable)

  • Experience supporting mechanical drafting projects

  • Exposure to electrical and fire suppression systems

  • Trustworthy, dedicated, and team-oriented mindset


Education and Experience Requirements

Position typically requires a high school diploma and a minimum of 1–2 years of related experience for Designer/Drafter 1, or 3–5 years of related experience for Designer/Drafter 2, or an equivalent combination of education and experience .

  • This position is 100% onsite in Los Alamos, NM and requires the ability to work a 4/10 schedule (Monday–Thursday, 5:00 AM – 3:30 PM).

  • Candidates must be able to perform walkdowns in radiological areas (PF4) and support work in secured LANL technical areas.
