Compa Industries is searching for qualified candidates for a Project Engineer position at Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, NM.

  • Salary: $68/hr - $73/hr

  • Location: Los Alamos, NM (Onsite)

  • Citizenship: US Citizenship Required

  • Work Schedule: 4/10 schedule

  • Clearance: Ability to acquire Q level clearance required.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university is required.

  • Minimum of 6 years of practical, directly relevant work experience is required.

  • Candidates must be able to pass an Oral Project Engineering Qualifications Test within 12 months of hiring and become qualified as an Administrative Subcontract Technical Representative (AdSTR) within 3 months.

  • Applications lacking these requirements will not be considered.


Impact

As a Project Engineer at LANL’s Plutonium Facilities Engineering Division, you will play a direct role in supporting the United States’ nuclear weapons stockpile stewardship and modernization programs. Your work will have a meaningful, long-term impact on national security and scientific advancement, ensuring that critical technical projects meet both user needs and regulatory requirements.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Serve as technical champion and facilitator for projects from inception to close-out.

  • Meet with customers and users of LANL’s Plutonium Facility (PF-4) to develop Statements of Need and Scopes of Work.

  • Resolve technical facility issues, enhance process/equipment/facility performance, and improve reliability.

  • Engage with Design and System Engineers to develop solutions for facility modifications, major equipment replacement, layout changes, and new installations.

  • Lead design development, review, and acceptance, including facilitating formal design reviews (30%/60%/90%).

  • Coordinate with Work Execution and Construction Management to implement designs.

  • Manage change control and engineering response to deviations.

  • Oversee project close-out, including collecting all required documentation in accordance with LANL Document Control mandates.

  • May support projects both inside and outside nuclear facility areas, varying from safety system modifications to office renovations.

  • Ensure continuous alignment of technical solutions with facility user needs.

  • Maintain high-quality technical design documentation throughout project lifecycle.

  • Potential to support 24/7 operations in the future.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge and experience managing technical teams and interfacing with other engineering disciplines.

  • Advanced understanding of technical scope development and senior-level experience with engineering design deliverables.

  • Extensive experience with design development and formal design review processes.

  • Ability to pass a Project Engineering Oral Qualifications Test within 12 months of hire.

  • Ability to qualify as an Administrative Subcontract Technical Representative (AdSTR) within 3 months of hire.

  • US Citizenship required.


Desired Skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Experience supporting technical projects in a nuclear or high-security facility is preferred.

  • Familiarity with LANL processes, procedures, and document control practices is a plus.


Education and Experience Requirements
