Senior Cost Control Specialist

COMPA Industries is searching for qualified candidates for a Senior Cost Control Specialist position supporting DOE/NNSA Capital Projects in Aiken, SC.

  • Pay: $60–$70/hr

  • Candidates must have strong project controls, cost control, financial analysis, change control, reporting, and cost/schedule impact analysis experience.
  • Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering, construction, operations, estimating, scheduling, or project controls. Candidates must also be able to review work for completeness against project specifications and scope definitions.
  • Impact
  • As a Senior Cost Control Specialist, you will support SRNS NNSA Capital Projects by providing project controls change control support services. Your work will help evaluate project scope, assess cost and schedule impacts, maintain change control documentation, identify project risks, and provide management with the information needed to maintain cost and schedule control throughout the life cycle of complex projects.
  • This role is ideal for a detail-oriented project controls professional who can analyze financial and schedule data, communicate with technical and project teams, prepare clear reports, and support disciplined change management on high-visibility DOE/NNSA projects.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Project Controls & Financial Analysis
  • Organize, develop, analyze, and maintain financial analysis applications used to monitor project objectives.
  • Prepare financial reports, status reports, management reports, plans, and ad hoc analysis.
  • Identify variances in work execution strategy and recommend practical solutions.
  • Support cost and schedule control throughout the life cycle of complex projects or work activities.
  • Perform moderately complex financial analysis activities under general supervision.
  • Apply financial planning and analysis techniques including variance analysis, scenario analysis, financial modeling, and cash flow modeling.
  • Serve as a financial liaison with operational programs and project teams.
  • Understand the business environment and operations of the area being supported.
  • Change Control Support
  • Deliver project controls change control support services for NNSA Capital Projects.
  • Evaluate and assess diverse project scopes.
  • Review project costs and schedules to support change control decisions.
  • Perform impact analysis for proposed changes to project scope, schedule, cost, and resources.
  • Prepare reports for management regarding change impacts, trends, risks, and metrics.
  • Maintain centralized change logs to ensure change requests, decisions, and actions are accurately recorded.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, and other functional teams to gather input and assess the feasibility and implications of proposed changes.
  • Ensure compliance with change control processes, regulatory requirements, contractual requirements, and organizational procedures.
  • Reporting, Risk & Documentation
  • Generate regular and ad hoc change status reports for project management and executive leadership.
  • Identify and communicate risks associated with proposed changes.
  • Coordinate with risk management teams to update the risk register as needed.
  • Interface with document control to ensure all change-related documents are properly archived, organized, and accessible.
  • Support technical writing, documentation review, cost analysis, schedule review, and management reporting.
  • Review work for completeness as required by project specifications and scope definitions.

Required Skills

  • Education & Experience
  • Master’s degree in business, construction management, technical, engineering, or a related area and 2 years of practical experience.
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in business, construction management, technical, engineering, or a related area and 5 years of practical experience.
  • OR Associate degree and 8 years of practical experience.
  • OR High school diploma and 12 years of relevant experience.

Core Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering, construction, operations, estimating, scheduling, and project controls.
  • Ability to review work for completeness as required by project specifications and scope definitions.
  • Strong problem-solving, analysis, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Considerable proficiency in the use of automated accounting and budgeting systems as tools for performing required duties.

Additional Required Skills

  • Experience supporting cost control, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and management reporting.
  • Experience reviewing project costs, schedules, scope, and change impacts.
  • Ability to perform impact analysis for proposed changes affecting project scope, schedule, cost, resources, and execution strategy.
  • Experience maintaining change logs, change documentation, action tracking, and change status reporting.
  • Strong understanding of project controls processes in complex project environments.
  • Strong personal computer skills.
  • Ability to coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, operations, project controls, document control, and management teams.

Preferred Skills

  • Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance, L or Q, within the past 2 years are preferred.
  • Prior Savannah River Site or SRNS experience.
  • Prior DOE/NNSA Capital Projects experience.
  • Experience with project change control processes.
  • Experience supporting engineering, construction, or nuclear capital projects.
  • Experience with cost/schedule integration, project reporting, risk registers, and document control coordination.
  • Experience preparing executive-level project controls reports and change impact summaries.

Security Requirements

  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance.

Work Environment

  • A 40-hour work week is scheduled.
  • SRS utilizes various schedules including 5/8s, 4/10s, and 9/80s.
  • Work hours in excess of 40 hours per week may be required as authorized by SRNS management.
