COMPA Industries is searching for qualified candidates for a Media Production / Services Specialist 2 position supporting Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, NM.

Salary: $38/hr – $45/hr, depending on experience
Location: Hybrid/as needed – Los Alamos, NM
Primary Base: TA-3, with support across the entire Lab
Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship Required
Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance
Work Schedule: Part-time/as-needed; 5/8s structure when scheduled
Assignment Duration: 1 year to start; long-term/indefinite project need
Extension/Conversion: Yes, both extension and conversion are possible
Positions Available: 1
Start Date: ASAP, realistically August
Travel: No offsite travel expected; travel support may be provided when reporting onsite
Per Diem/Relocation: Per diem available; no relocation
Remote/Hybrid: Hybrid/as needed – onsite when media work is required; editing may be completed remotely when appropriate
Overtime/On-Call: No OT expected; on-call support possible as needed

Applicants must have hands-on professional experience in photography, videography, and video editing. This role is intended for a versatile media production professional who can support onsite shoots, capture high-quality visual content, edit polished deliverables, and work directly with Laboratory customers.

Candidates without the following experience will not be considered:

  • Professional photography experience

  • Strong video editing experience

  • Videography / video shooting experience

  • Ability to work onsite in Los Alamos when media jobs are required

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance

  • Ability to carry media equipment up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during onsite shoots

Impact

The Media Production / Services Specialist 2 supports official LANL communications, training, documentation, promotional content, and customer-driven media needs. This role helps Laboratory organizations communicate technical, operational, training, and mission-related information through high-quality photo and video content.

The selected specialist will serve as a customer-facing media resource and support projects across the Laboratory by capturing, editing, and producing visual media for internal and external audiences. This role is important because LANL customers rely on accurate, professional, and polished visual content to support official Laboratory messaging, training, documentation, and outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Capture professional still photography and video for official LANL purposes.

  • Edit video content for training, promotional, documentation, presentation, and communications needs.

  • Support digital imagery requests for internal and external Laboratory audiences.

  • Serve as a primary customer-facing contact for photographic and videographic service requests.

  • Conduct needs assessments with Laboratory customers to understand scope, audience, purpose, and deliverables.

  • Develop visual media content and presentation materials based on customer requirements.

  • Advise customers on Laboratory media policies, procedures, standards, and production expectations.

  • Support onsite media shoots at TA-3 and across the Laboratory as needed.

  • Complete post-production work, including editing, file organization, media formatting, and final delivery.

  • Use Adobe Creative Suite and related media production tools to produce polished deliverables.

  • Coordinate schedules, plan shoots, manage equipment needs, and arrange activities to meet objectives.

  • Resolve creative and technical production issues in a professional and customer-focused manner.

  • Work under limited direction while independently managing assigned tasks and deliverables.

  • Support secure or controlled Laboratory environments while maintaining professionalism and compliance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Professional experience in photography, videography, video editing, media production, communications, or a related field.

  • Strong video editing experience.

  • Experience shooting video and capturing professional-quality photography.

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite or similar media production/editing tools.

  • Strong general computer skills and ability to manage digital media files, storage, formats, and production workflows.

  • Ability to conduct customer needs assessments and translate requirements into effective visual media products.

  • Ability to work independently under limited direction.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to interface directly with customers, stakeholders, and technical teams.

  • Ability to support hybrid/as-needed work, including onsite reporting whenever a media job requires it.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance.

  • Ability to obtain required LANL access, including unescorted access and A-Level access.

  • Ability to carry up to 50 lbs. of equipment and stand/walk for extended periods during onsite shoots.

  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in media production, photography, videography, communications, digital media, film, or a related field preferred, but not required.

  • Experience supporting government, laboratory, scientific, technical, engineering, or highly regulated environments.

  • Experience producing training videos, promotional media, event coverage, executive communications, technical documentation imagery, or internal communications content.

  • Experience creating content for both internal and external audiences.

  • Experience with animation, motion graphics, graphic design, visual effects, or other digital media production capabilities.

  • Experience managing end-to-end media production from planning through final delivery.

  • Experience working with subject matter experts, communications teams, technical teams, leadership stakeholders, or customer organizations.

  • Experience supporting on-location shoots in large campuses, secure facilities, industrial settings, or technical environments.

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating video editing, videography, photography, and visual storytelling.

Work Schedule

This is an as-needed, part-time role and is not a full-time position.

The position may follow a 5/8s structure when scheduled, but actual hours will depend on Laboratory customer needs. Some weeks may have regular billable work, some weeks may be heavier, and some weeks may have little or no work.

Candidates must be flexible and available to report onsite when media assignments are needed. Post-production and editing work may be completed remotely when appropriate.

Work Environment

This position is hybrid/as-needed in Los Alamos, NM. The primary base is TA-3, but work may support the entire Laboratory. The selected candidate must be comfortable reporting onsite for photography, video shoots, customer meetings, event coverage, technical documentation, and other media production needs.

Work may involve walking across Laboratory sites, standing for extended periods, carrying production equipment up to 50 lbs., and supporting media assignments in secure or controlled environments. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance, unescorted access, and A-Level access.
