About the Role
We are recruiting on behalf of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) for two Technical Project
Managers to serve as Risk Analysts at LANL’s office in Richland, WA. This is an entry-level, developmental role supporting risk management for capital asset projects. You will learn project risk management, keep risk documentation accurate, and support routine assessments and reporting while working alongside experienced risk professionals.
You will learn risk management practices aligned with DOE G 413.3-7A, Risk Management Guide, and the capital asset project process under DOE O 413.3B. Assignments are clearly defined, with regular direction, mentoring, and review. Training covers identifying and documenting risks, supporting risk assessments, and the fundamentals of Monte Carlo analysis. The team is growing quickly with new project scope, sits in the same office as the project controls managers, and is a good place to learn several areas of project work and find where you want to grow.
Key Responsibilities
• Help identify and document risks that could affect project scope, cost, schedule, or technical performance.
• Work with risk owners and project team members to gather information and draft risk statements, including causes, potential consequences, and supporting assumptions.
• Update and maintain risk registers, including risk owners, probability and impact assessments, handling actions, due dates, and status.
• Participate in risk review meetings, document outcomes, and follow up on assigned action items.
• Learn to assess risk probability and impact using established criteria and guidance from experienced analysts.
• Build an understanding of the capital asset project lifecycle, including critical decisions and how risk management supports planning, execution, and closeout.
• Learn the fundamentals of cost and schedule risk analysis, including estimate uncertainty, probability distributions, and Monte Carlo simulation.
• Gather and check analysis inputs, run established risk models under direct guidance, and document assumptions and results for review.
• Prepare routine risk summaries and reporting materials using established formats.
• Spot missing or inconsistent information and bring questions or potential changes in risk exposure to senior staff.
• Collaborate with project managers, project controls staff, engineers, and other team members to support accurate risk documentation.
Required Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, project management, business, mathematics, statistics, or a related field. Bachelor’s degrees in other disciplines will be considered; the team puts more weight on the ability to learn and grow than on a specific major. Prior work experience is not required. Prior experience with Monte Carlo simulation or specialized risk software is also not required, as training, mentoring, and supervised practical experience will be provided.

• Basic understanding of project management concepts (scope, cost, schedule, and deliverables) gained through education, training, or work experience
