Where you will work: This position offers a hybrid work option (up to 50% remote) and is open to any Compeer office location in Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The contributions you will make: 

This position leads a team of sales and relationship managers who are responsible for generating new loan and lease business and cross-selling Compeer products and services. The focus is on building and nurturing relationships with current and prospective clients within Emerging Markets and Young Beginning Small (YBS) Programs. The incumbent creates and executes strategy to develop new business, enhance existing client relationships, and offer unique value within the designated marketplace. Guides the team in establishing Compeer as the premier provider of lending and financial services to eligible clients. Collaborates with the New Markets cohort to design, develop, build, test and explore new innovative programs and services for clients. As a key resource for Compeer sales teams, cultivates a robust internal and external network to drive success for these initiatives.

A typical day: 

  • Champions the brand and serve as a role model for the organization's vision, mission, and culture.
  • Establishes and develop guidelines to ensure consistent, timely, thorough, and responsive service to all clients.
  • Coordinates and lead business planning and budgeting for the Emerging Markets and YBS team.
  • Develops marketplace-specific strategies aligning with business units and organizational objectives.
  • Prioritizes and assign work, monitor progress, and evaluate results.
  • Coaches team members on complex issues and decisions.
  • Stays current with industry best practices and execute efficient practices to enhance team value.
  • Recruits, selects, motivates, develops, evaluates, and rewards team members.
  • Ensures appropriate tools, software, and systems support efficient processes.
  • Promotes a positive work environment leveraging team talents and abilities.
  • Leads Young Beginning and Small Farmers and ESG efforts across the organization.
  • Designs and executes commercial strategies that leverage Compeer’s capabilities and competitive advantages to create differentiated offerings in the marketplace.
  • Develops go-to-market strategy and drives new business by identifying, acquiring, and growing client relationships, while leveraging Compeer’s existing network.
  • Leverages relationships, partnerships, and internal teams to execute initiatives for New Markets and Young Beginning, Small Farmer activities.
  • Designs, implements, and sustains systems that promote a relationship-driven sales culture.
  • Researches and discovers New Market opportunities with a focus on Fintech and non-production Ag business opportunities.
  • Leads new product and service experiments; utilizes tools to create, build, test, and experiment new product and services.
  • Develops product and services for Young, Beginning, and Small farmers as well as minority and veteran lending programs.
  • Creates new business models to meet the demands of new markets activities.
  • Reviews credit actions submitted for credit committee approval.
  • Assesses portfolio to maintain credit exposure levels within internal guidelines and works with internal team members, such as credit and audit, to develop sound lending policies and procedures.
  • Prepares regular business unit reports for Compeer.
  • Proposes annual budget and business plan.
  • Attends Compeer Management and Board meetings, as requested, to support YBS and EM.
  • Coordinates and participates in workgroups to improve processes and systems
  • Collaborates with leadership on data for New Markets.
  • Collaborate on innovation for appraisal information and data with external partners.
  • Provides expertise and leadership for data integrity and management for both internal and external data for New Markets.
  • Provide strategic leadership to data team to strategically target the generation of business insights and strategy, and translate data findings into actionable recommendations and improvements.
  • Continuously evaluates industry trends for opportunities to utilize new technologies and data sources, and recommend strategies to implement these enhancements in the data environment.
  • Collaborates and recommends process improvement initiatives and innovation projects within the department.
  • Leads, coordinates, and recommends process improvement initiatives and innovation projects.
  • Leads cross-functional teams to collaborate on the implementation of new products and services launched by the department.
  • Provides business leadership for Compeer’s collateral data, including appraisal data and collateral data used in lending and other systems. Champions interface and transfer of collateral information for use across Compeer.
  • Leads board YBS committee and YBS Client Advisory Group.
  • Participates as a member of the Farm Credit System peer group.

The skills and experience we prefer you have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, economics, agribusiness or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Expert-level experience in sales, marketing, risk management and/or data analytics lending in a financial institution.
  • Advanced-level leadership and management experience, preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal and state (Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin) laws, regulations, and compliance requirements specific to the financial industry and Farm Credit.
  • Solid understanding of federal, state, and local governmental programs regarding local food production, YBS, and conservation.
  • Advanced understanding of financial markets, complex lending transactions, and strategic selling skills.
  • Strong marketing skills and the ability to lead sales closings.
  • Business development, organizational, negotiation, credit, presentation, marketing, and sales skills.
  • Ability to remain objective in balancing business needs and risk.
  • Advanced reporting software and database skills.
  • Advanced experience in process improvement and project management.
  • Prior experience writing Standard Operating Procedures and policy.
  • Strong listening, written, and verbal communication skills, with ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • High degree of accuracy and accountability.
  • Advanced computer skills, including MS Office applications and customer relationship management (CRM) programs.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles, both at the organization level and client level.
  • Solid knowledge of economic and risk management.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other teams to achieve goals and represent the business.
  • Valid driver’s license.

How we will take care of you:

Our job titles may span more than one career level (associate, senior, principal, etc.). The actual title and base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role is eligible for variable compensation and other benefits.

Base Pay

$146,000 - $222,400 USD
