This is a paid internship; however, the intern must provide their own housing and transportation. Business related transportation and expenses will be paid by the organization. This intern will work full-time through the summer of 2027. The internship is located out of either our Sun Prairie, Dodgeville, or Lancaster, WI office locations. If pursuing internship credit through your university, it is your responsibility to consult with your advisor and review the internship's job description to ensure it meets the minimum eligibility requirements.

The contributions you will make: 

This position provides exposure to credit risk, portfolio management, client service, loan and lease servicing, collections, collateral valuation, and accounts involved in litigation or bankruptcy. The intern will work closely with members of the Risk Asset Unit and other Compeer teams to monitor accounts and reports, communicate with clients and lending partners, maintain accurate records and documentation, and support servicing activities.

A typical day: 

  • Assists Credit Risk Officers with the monitoring and servicing of financially stressed and higher-risk accounts.
  • Monitors past-due accounts and other assigned portfolio reports, communicates with clients and lending partners, and arranges repayment solutions.
  • Investigates payment discrepancies and other account issues and escalates matters as appropriate.
  • Maintains accurate and complete Salesforce and accounting records, including documentation of client and lending partner communications.
  • Onboards new accounts into the Risk Asset Unit and reviews documentation for collateral, insurance, signers, and servicing requirements.
  • Evaluates collateral values, discounts, net realizable value, and potential reserves for non-performing loans/leases using established methods and guidelines.
  • Supports financial reviews and lending and servicing decisions by gathering and reviewing financial, collateral, and other supporting information.
  • Assists with accounts involved in litigation or bankruptcy, including coordinating with legal counsel and maintaining required documentation.
  • Handles account servicing needs such as collateral releases/swaps, payment corrections, amendments, and other account changes.
  • Coordinates required documents and works across internal teams and third parties to resolve issues.
  • Escalates complex or non-routine matters to the appropriate team members.
  • Assists with special projects and other duties as assigned to support the Risk Asset Unit.

The skills and experience we prefer you have: 

  • Working toward completion of a bachelor’s degree, with at least two years completed, in agricultural economics, agricultural business, or an equivalent agriculture- or business-related degree.
  • Solid organizational, communication, problem-solving, analytical, and influencing skills are required.
  • Knowledge of farm production methods and products and a general understanding of farm business management and finance preferred.
  • Demonstrates effective teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Understanding of and ability to use various business and financial computer applications is required.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate documentation and manage multiple follow-up items.

How we will take care of you:

Actual hourly rate offered is dependent upon year in school, work experience, transferable skills, business needs and market demands. The hourly rate range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

Base Pay

$19 - $20 USD
