The Staff Software Engineer is a hands-on backend role focused on building the Java services that power real-time pricing across Conga's platform. This position is responsible for designing and delivering cloud-native, microservices-based capabilities that are scalable, performant, resilient, and maintainable.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will work with Cassandra, Redis, Azure, and event-driven patterns to deliver high-throughput backend solutions. You will collaborate with an international team of engineers, product managers, and architects, contribute to architecture decisions, and mentor junior engineers along the way.

This role is ideal for experienced Java engineers who thrive on distributed systems, care deeply about clean code and quality, and want their work to have a direct impact on how enterprise customers price and sell.

• Design and develop backend services in Java for a cloud-native, microservices-based platform with a strong focus on scalability, performance, resiliency, and maintainability.
• Build reusable backend services and distributed system capabilities that support real-time pricing and related business operations.
• Work with Cassandra, Redis, Azure, and event-driven patterns to deliver reliable, high-throughput backend solutions.
• Collaborate with an international team of engineers, product managers, and architects to define system functionality and plan future sprints.
• Partner with tech leads and architects to align implementations with industry best practices and company standards across the backend layer.
• Contribute to backend architecture decisions, service design, and data handling patterns.
• Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing across the engineering team.
• Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers, guiding them in best practices, design decisions, and professional growth.
• Conduct technical research to solve complex problems and drive continuous improvement across backend technologies.
• Develop unit, integration, and service-level tests, and collaborate with QA to ensure end-to-end quality.
• Work closely with the DevOps/Cloud Services team to support deployments and troubleshoot production issues.
• Contribute to and maintain technical documentation.
• Help improve engineering processes, delivery practices, and operational reliability across the platform.

Here's What We're Looking For...

• 5+ years of experience developing large-scale, complex applications with Java.
• Strong expertise in backend development, including multi-threading, messaging, streaming, performance optimization, and horizontal scalability.
• Solid experience building REST APIs and backend services.
• Hands-on experience with Cassandra and other NoSQL databases, as well as SQL databases.
• Strong knowledge of Redis, including caching and stream-based workflows.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure, along with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and event-driven design.
• Solid understanding of OOP, design patterns, SOLID principles, and clean architecture.
• Awareness of algorithmic complexity and Java data structures.
• Experience with BDD/TDD practices and Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions, and working knowledge of Git, Jira, and Confluence.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• A proactive mindset and willingness to learn and work across backend technologies.
• Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar) to improve productivity, code quality, or development workflows.
• Experience with Java 21 and/or Dropwizard.
• Familiarity with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch.
• Experience with Azure Service Bus, Redis Streams, or similar messaging technologies.
• Experience with AKS, Helm, or other Azure deployment tooling.
• University degree in Computer Science or a related field.
