Position Summary
The Network Engineer is responsible for maintaining, administering, and enhancing the organization’s computer networks and related computing environments. This includes systems software, applications, hardware, configurations, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and security. The role ensures high availability, integrity, and reliability of network operations while supporting users and collaborating with IT teams.
Key Responsibilities
Network Administration & Maintenance
- Maintain and administer computer networks, systems software, application software, hardware, and configurations.
- Perform routine network maintenance, updates, and optimization activities.
- Operate master consoles to monitor network and system performance.
- Monitor network performance and recommend adjustments to improve speed, reliability, and uptime.
Security & Risk Management
- Coordinate, plan, and implement network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.
- Maintain, configure, and monitor virus protection software and email applications.
- Perform data backups and execute disaster recovery operations when required.
Troubleshooting & Support
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network/system problems in a timely manner.
- Replace faulty network hardware components as necessary.
- Confer with network users to understand and resolve existing issues.
- Coordinate network access, usage, and permissions across the organization.
Network Design & Implementation
- Design, configure, and test networking software, hardware, and operating system components.
- Create accurate network diagrams and documentation for system design, planning, and communication.
- Provide detailed information and recommendations for hardware and software selection.
Continuous Learning & Collaboration
- Stay current with new technologies and products through documentation and online resources.
- Work effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all organizational levels.
- Contribute as a self‑starter while collaborating within the broader IT and engineering teams.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field with a focus on network engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience with LAN, WAN, wireless, and network security environments.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of network infrastructure, architecture, and hardware.
- Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network devices including:
- Wireless access points
- Firewalls
- Routers & switches
- Controllers
- Knowledge of network protocols and application transport mechanisms.
- Ability to visualize, design, and document network communication systems.
Professional Skills
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability.
- Ability to work independently and in collaborative team environments.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with users and stakeholders.
- Dependability and flexibility to meet operational needs.
