AVP, Payroll Manager

Job Summary
The Payroll Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the company's payroll functions, ensuring payroll is processed accurately, compliantly, and on time for all employees. This role requires an expert understanding of federal, state, and local tax regulations, complex payroll systems, and general accounting principles. The Payroll Manager leads the payroll team and acts as the primary contact for payroll-related inquiries and system audits. Maintain accurate employee payroll records, including time and attendance records, deductions, and benefits.
- Manage the end-to-end multi-state payroll cycle for all employees using ADP WorkforceNow
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of all wages, salary payments, bonuses, commission payouts, and expense reimbursements.
- Administer and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax laws, including IRS regulations, FICA, unemployment insurance, and various wage garnishments.
- Manage the accurate processing of all payroll deductions, including benefits, 401(k) contributions, and flex spending accounts (FSA).
- Oversee year-end activities, including the preparation, reconciliation, and timely filing of W-2s
- Maintain the integrity, accuracy, and security of payroll data within the HRIS and timekeeping systems.
- Lead the implementation, testing, and configuration of payroll system upgrades, patches, and integrations
- Perform complex payroll reconciliations (e.g., General Ledger, bank statements, tax filings) on a monthly and quarterly basis.
- Generate detailed payroll reports for finance, accounting, and HR departments, supporting internal and external audits.
- Supervise, mentor, and provide professional development opportunities for the payroll team
- Develop, document, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the payroll function to ensure consistency and scalability.
- Act as the escalation point for resolving complex payroll issues, discrepancies, and employee tax inquiries. Elevate issues to CHRO as necessary.
- Coordinate with the HR team to ensure accurate flow of new hire data, terminations, status changes, and benefits enrollment information.
- Collaborate with accounting department and all payroll related vendors
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred).
- Experience: 10-15 years of progressive experience in payroll administration, with a minimum of 5 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency with enterprise-level payroll software. Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables).
- Proficiency in ADP Workforce Now
- Compliance: Comprehensive knowledge of multi-state payroll regulations, taxation, and labor laws (e.g., FLSA).
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, written, and verbal communication
- Must be an enthusiastic self-starter, flexible, able to multi-task and delegate or handle responsibilities with minimal supervision and exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
Preferred Certifications
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is highly desired
Compensation
Salary for this position ranges from $100,000.00 - $120,000.00. The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, and education. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
Qualifying positions will also be eligible for comprehensive benefits, such as participation in family medical and dental insurance programs, 401K plan, and PTO.
