Countertop Laser Template Technician
Template Technician – Surfaces / Natural Stone
Classification: Non-Exempt, Hourly
Reports to: Template Manager
Summary / Objective
This position is responsible for creating accurate templates for the fabrication and installation of quartz, granite, and other natural stone countertops, as well as solid surface materials. The Template Technician ensures precise measurements and clear documentation to support successful production and installation.
Essential Functions
- Create accurate templates in accordance with job specifications and department procedures
- Perform field measurements at residential and/or commercial job sites
- Utilize templating methods including laser templating systems and/or traditional (manual/stick) templating techniques
- Load, transport, and maintain templating tools and materials required for daily assignments
- Read and interpret architectural drawings, layouts, and technical documents
- Communicate effectively with Order Control, Sales, fabrication teams, and customers regarding template details and scheduling
- Ensure proper maintenance and care of templating equipment and tools
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Competencies / Skills / Abilities
- Experience in countertop templating, installation, fabrication, or related field preferred
- Experience with quartz, granite, or stone products strongly preferred
- Familiarity with either laser templating equipment or traditional templating methods is acceptable
- Ability to read and understand basic drawings and job specifications
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage time effectively and work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and customer-facing skills
- Willingness to learn and be trained on company templating systems and processes
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- Prior industry experience preferred but not required; candidates with related construction, carpentry, or installation backgrounds encouraged to apply
- Willing to train candidates with transferable skills and a strong work ethic
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities
Work Environment
This role operates in both field (job site) and manufacturing environments
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and use hands and arms
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently, occasionally up to 75 pounds
- Must be able to perform physical tasks in job site and shop environments
