Accountant

Foster City, CA

Conviva is the experience analytics platform for AI agents, apps, and streaming. Conviva pioneered quality of experience measurement for streaming video and has supported live digital experiences across 20 Super Bowls, 10 Olympic Games, and five FIFA World Cup tournaments. With full-census, real-time, stateful analytics, Conviva shows what consumers actually experience, not just whether systems are running, and connects that experience to revenue, retention, and risk.

This is an accounting role. You will work on the payroll and equity accounts in our general ledger: reconciling them, supporting the monthly close and explaining them to the accounting lead and to our auditors. Processing payroll is part of the job. Accounting is the job.

We are building this seat for someone early in their career who wants to grow into it. Our finance team is replacing manual work with modern tooling and AI, and we are hiring someone curious about that. As Conviva scales, the scope of this role scales with it.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO EVERY DAY

  • Post the payroll and equity journal entries in NetSuite, reconcile the accounts monthly and explain the balances.
  • Prepare and process semi-monthly U.S. payroll through ADP, accurately and on time.
  • Support the monthly international payroll cycle for the UK, Spain, India and China, coordinating with our in-country providers.
  • Administer the equity program in Carta, including grants, exercises, terminations and employee data.
  • Support stock-based compensation entries and cap table reporting.
  • Reconcile employee benefit and 401(k) deductions, contributions and funding between payroll, the providers and the general ledger.
  • Support payroll tax compliance, including filings, notices, state registrations and workers' compensation returns.
  • Partner with HR on payroll data, personnel changes and monthly headcount reporting.
  • Support the external audit by preparing workpapers and responding to requests in the areas you own.
  • Take on projects outside the monthly cycle. Recent examples on this team include rebuilding the fully diluted share schedule and a state tax registration analysis.
  • Find the manual steps in your own work and remove them. We will give you the tools and the time to do it.

WHERE THIS ROLE GOES

We are hiring for trajectory, not only for coverage. Over your first two years you can expect to take on:

  • Full ownership of the payroll and equity accounts at close, then broader ownership of the close as the company scales, with the chance to design process rather than only run it.
  • Ownership of the international payroll cycle and payroll tax compliance across the U.S., UK, Spain, India and China.
  • Deeper technical accounting, including recording stock-based compensation expense under ASC 718, maintaining the fully diluted share count and the judgments behind it.
  • Systems and automation work. We are evaluating a replacement for our accounting tech stack, and you would help to select and implement it.
  • Direct mentorship. You will work alongside the accounting lead who runs the function, not through layers of management.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
  • One to three years of accounting experience, including hands-on exposure to payroll. Public accounting, corporate accounting and internships all count. Experience supporting a month-end close matters more to us than the number of years.
  • A solid grounding in the fundamentals: journal entries, account reconciliation and month end close.
  • Curiosity about AI and automation, and some evidence you have used it in your work. We care more that you have tried than that you have mastered it.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and advanced working knowledge of Excel.
  • Comfort working independently in a fast-moving environment where the process is still being built, and a willingness to ask questions rather than guess.
  • A high standard of confidentiality and discretion handling compensation and equity data.
  • Experience with ADP, NetSuite or Carta is a plus rather than a requirement. We will teach you the systems.
  • CPA or CPA track is a plus.

This role is based in our Foster City, CA office full-time. The expected salary for this full-time position is $80,000 to $95,000. Compensation is determined by various factors such as qualifications, experience, relevant education or training.
