New Product Introduction Engineer
Overview
As a New Product Introduction Engineer at Copper, you will play a crucial role in developing equipment and processes for cutting-edge battery-enabled appliances. You will collaborate with our cross-functional team throughout the entire product launch lifecycle, from design to full production ramp. This hands-on role requires close collaboration with Design Engineering, Quality, Production, Maintenance, Test, and External Vendors to take designs from concept to full production.

This is an in-person role at our main office in Berkeley, CA, with frequent trips to our local manufacturing facility in South San Francisco and occasional overseas travel.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Develop manufacturing tests and manage the triage of failed units.
- Manage supplier quality issues and oversee rework processes.
- Support the development of test and assembly fixtures.
- Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) reviews.
- Collaborate with Design Engineering to optimize new production processes.
- Lead root cause analysis on in-process product failures and implement preventative actions.
- Support the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process for hardware, firmware, and software.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams as we scale our current production and set up production lines in new facilities.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in engineering, with a focus on mechanical, electrical, or firmware engineering.
- 8-10 years of experience working as a manufacturing/NPI engineer or equivalent.
- Demonstrated expertise in product development, formulation, process development, and manufacturing.
- Strong collaborator with attention to detail, organization, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to function independently and remain engaged in tough circumstances.
- Strong knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Familiarity with BOMs, process design, assembly methods, and cost reduction methodologies.
- Experience working with contract manufacturers.
- Excellent communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and statistical data analysis programs.
- Ability to travel internationally.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with ERP systems.
- Experience with Mechanical or Electrical CAD software.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and/or firmware code base.

Compensation
The salary range for this role is $135,000 - $170,000 per year. We are committed to equitable compensation, and offer a generous benefits package to make sure you have the support you need. We cover 100% of the premiums for our employees and 50% of the premiums for their dependents on our base plans for medical, dental, and vision insurance. We offer a 401(k) plan for employees to contribute to, in addition to many other benefits. Every employee, regardless of gender identity or expression, is eligible for 16 weeks of paid parental leave after three months of employment (eight weeks through Copper and eight weeks CA Paid Family Leave).
