Maritime & Systems Engineers

Canberra, ACT

At Coras, we fuse expertise with humanity, rigor with creativity and innovation with curiosity. At the core of our business is the belief that a diversity of perspectives is the key to new thinking. That’s why our team brings together deep industry experience with some of the brightest young minds in Australia. Our values are more than just words on an email signature; we’re driven by an ethos that inspires and governs everything we do.

The Role:

We have secured new engineering work supporting Navy Capability, and we are building the team to deliver it. We have multiple openings across two skill sets: Systems and Software Engineering, and Specialist Engineering (Maritime Systems). Roles are available at the Manager and Senior Manager levels.

You will support Navy Capability's delivery of the 2026-27 Forward Work Program, working across Navy Capability branches through engineering, systems engineering and technical assurance activities that span the capability lifecycle. The work sits in the maritime domain, close to the programs shaping Australia's future surface combatant and other maritime capability. You will be centrally coordinated and assigned to defined projects, working under the direction of the Defence client and alongside their teams.

Day to day the work covers engineering advice and technical assessment, requirements engineering, design and documentation review, options and trade-off analysis, technical risk and issue management, and standards, assurance and compliance support.

While consulting experience is valuable, it is not essential. We are looking for strong technical practitioners who want to apply their expertise in a consulting environment, and we can support you in developing those skills.

Our Ideal Candidate:

We are looking specifically for engineers with hands-on experience in Defence maritime capability. You are an experienced engineer with a strong understanding of how complex maritime systems are developed, integrated and supported. You may have worked within Navy, the Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG), a prime contractor, or another organisation supporting Defence programs.

We are particularly interested in people with experience across areas such as:

  • Systems engineering, requirements engineering, integration engineering or technical assurance
  • Verification and validation, test and evaluation, technical performance measures or acceptance activities
  • Maritime platforms, combat systems, weapon systems or marine systems
  • Engineering advice, options and trade-off analysis, or technical risk and issue management
  • Technical governance, engineering standards and compliance, or engineering processes

You will bring:

  • A Bachelor-level engineering qualification (or equivalent) in systems engineering, naval architecture, marine engineering, electrical or electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience delivering engineering outcomes in a Defence maritime environment
  • Experience working within the Defence Capability System (highly desirable)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information for different audiences
  • The ability to work independently, navigate ambiguity and build trusted stakeholder relationships

Experience with MBSE, requirements tools (such as DOORS or Jama), Above the Line support, Defence capability documentation, Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), the Defence Seaworthiness Management System, or INCOSE practice would be highly regarded.

As we are a Defence consultancy, you must also have the ability to obtain and maintain an AGSVA security clearance, ideally at the NV1 level or higher.
