Senior or Lead Software Engineer - Cloud Infrastructure (SRE)

North America

Do you want to help make the world safe from cyber attack?

At Corelight, we believe that the best approach to cybersecurity risk starts with the network.  Attackers can evade endpoint detection, firewalls and many other technologies - but they can’t avoid leaving digital footprints on the networks they traverse.  Built on open-source innovations from Zeek, Suricata and YARA and refined through years of real-world use,  Corelight transforms network footprints from physical, virtual and cloud networks into actionable insights.   Our customers use these insights to speed incident response and proactively hunt for threats.

As a Software Engineer - Cloud Infrastructure (SRE), you will build and ensure the stability, performance, and security of our various cloud services. You’ll manage infrastructure and operations with a focus on availability, latency, performance optimization, monitoring, incident response, and capacity planning.

We adopt an "everything as code" approach, leveraging automation and best practices to create an efficient, reliable, and scalable infrastructure. You will be instrumental in maintaining core infrastructure services that are robust, secure, and capable of processing high volumes of data seamlessly.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure solutions primarily on AWS, but we also work with Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Build microservices that expose RESTful APIs
  • Develop automation scripts and tools to streamline provisioning, configuration, and management of cloud resources.
  • Collaborate with software development teams to integrate cloud services into applications and workflows.
  • Implement monitoring and alerting systems to ensure the performance, availability, and security of cloud environments.
  • Optimize resource utilization and cost efficiency through continuous monitoring, analysis, and optimization of cloud infrastructure.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in cloud computing, DevOps, and infrastructure automation.
  • Participate in the resolution of production incidents and contribute to post-mortem analysis and improvement efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or related fields, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in cloud infrastructure engineering or related roles.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Go, Java, or C#.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.
  • Experience with automation tools like Jenkins, Gitlab, Ansible, or Chef.
  • Understanding of networking concepts, security best practices, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience with Observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, or similar
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or similar technologies
  • Knowledge of security practices and standards in cloud environments
  • Experience with SLI, SLO, SLA, and Error Budget concepts
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues under pressure
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevOps/SRE practices
  • Excellent documentation skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Certification in cloud computing (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect).
  • Experience with serverless computing platforms (e.g., AWS Lambda, Azure Functions).
