We are seeking a Government and Tax Incentives Counsel for our Government Affairs team. If you are a detail-oriented lawyer with a background in government incentives (data centers, real estate, and tax), this is an excellent opportunity to advance your career in a cutting-edge industry and contribute to our growth and success.
CoreWeave is a tenant in numerous data centers across the US, supporting its cutting-edge AI cloud platform. Our data centers may qualify for State government incentives, such as sales tax exemptions. In addition, CoreWeave pursues local government incentives, including property and real tax abatements.
About the Role:
We seek a lawyer to collaborate with teams’ company-wide to help analyze and secure state and local government incentives. This lawyer will also help the company develop and maintain a world-class compliance program to meet incentive reporting requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Read, research, and interpret statutes to assist in the preparation and submission of applications for State and local government incentive programs, tax incentives, and others including grants, subsidies, and abatements.
- Advise the company’s procurement and supply chain units and data center operations group to ensure the company is using the exemptions correctly to avail itself of the sales tax exemptions and or other incentives.
- Advise outside vendors, and the company’s accounting department, regarding reporting requirements to ensure the company is in compliance with data center sales tax exemption programs and other incentive programs.
- Represent the company in discussions on incentives with government officials.
- Structure agreements with government authorities and negotiate documents to complete transactions.
- Manage outside counsel when needed to complete such agreements.
- Gain an understanding of the company’s capital structure and financing to ensure agreements are consistent with the company’s obligations.
- Work collaboratively to prioritize business objectives and support overall company success.
- Support other projects, as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least 4 years of relevant legal experience, with a focus on state data center incentive programs, real estate, and other government and tax incentive programs.
- Demonstrated ability to research and interpret statutes, regulations, rules and related guidance regarding government incentive programs.
- Work with support staff to complete, revise, submit and advance government incentive applications.
- Demonstrated ability to build, implement and maintain programs to comply with incentive program requirements.
- Ability to be the primary in-house attorney on certain corporate projects, including handling multiple matters simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people, collaborate with diverse business groups and business partners, and build interdepartmental relationships at all levels.
- Advanced problem solving skills to quickly digest a problem, evaluate solutions, and then empower others to deliver.
- Experience in project management.
- Ability to balance legal risk mitigation against key business objectives and risks.
- Ability to manage outside counsel efficiently.
- A commitment to professional conduct, excellence and meticulous attention to detail, sometimes under time pressure.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
- J.D. degree & membership in at least one state bar (Washington DC, New York, New Jersey, California or Washington preferred).
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $150,000-$185,000. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
