Role Overview
As a Research Intern, you will support Cortland’s Research and Strategy team through data analysis, market monitoring, and preparation of materials for leadership discussions. This role is ideal for a student or early-career professional who is passionate about data, enjoys solving analytical problems, and is interested in applying quantitative and qualitative insights to real estate investment strategy for a top vertically integrated Multifamily investment and operations firm.
The intern will gain exposure to real estate research, economic trend analysis, and the inner workings of an institutional multifamily platform.
- Assist with collecting relevant macroeconomic and real estate data
- Assist in analyzing datasets to support research initiatives
- Monitor economic trends, real estate markets, and key performance indicators
- Support the creation of presentations and materials for leadership and investor conversations
- Use Excel to organize, clean, and interpret data (additional tools taught as needed)
- Work collaboratively with research team members in a fast paced environment
- Stay informed on market developments and contribute to ongoing research projects
- Learn about real estate markets, investment strategy, and economic drivers affecting the multifamily sector
Qualifications
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Real Estate, or a related field
- Strong analytical mindset with interest in data-driven problem-solving
- Working knowledge of Excel (pivot tables, functions, basic modeling); willingness to learn more advanced functions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort with PowerPoint
- Ability to work with and reconcile datasets accurately
- Attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced environment
Preferred or Teachable Skills
- Familiarity with real estate and economic data tools (FRED, Census, BLS, CoStar)
- Knowledge of or curiosity about macroeconomic trends, real estate markets, or financial analysis
