Data Quality/Data Governance Analyst

Cottingham & Butler is seeking a Data Quality Analyst to join our growing Data Team. This role plays a critical part in ensuring enterprise data is accurate, consistent, and trusted across the organization. You’ll support data quality standards and governance practices while partnering closely with business and technical teams to advance data maturity and reliability.

Sitting at the intersection of data, process, and communication, this position serves as a champion for data integrity and stewardship. You’ll collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business leaders to ensure high-quality data is well-managed, understood, and ready to drive informed decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Quality Management - Develop, implement, and maintain data quality rules, metrics, and processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency across enterprise systems and reporting.
  • Data Governance Support - Contribute to enterprise data governance initiatives by supporting documentation, data ownership models, and stewardship practices.
  • Business Partnership & Communication - Collaborate with business units to understand data flows, clarify definitions and standards, and align data policies with operational and reporting needs.
  • Issue Identification & Resolution - Identify, document, and track data quality issues; partner with technical and business stakeholders to determine root causes and support remediation efforts.
  • Monitoring & Reporting - Build and maintain data quality dashboards, KPIs, and exception reporting to communicate data reliability and progress over time.
  • Metadata & Lineage Management - Support data catalogs, business glossaries, and lineage documentation to improve data transparency and trust.
  • Engineering Collaboration - Partner with data engineering teams to embed validation rules and quality checks into ETL and data pipeline processes.
  • Education & Stewardship - Assist data owners and business users with data definitions, standards, and quality best practices; promote shared accountability for data accuracy.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytically strong, and comfortable working across both technical and business audiences. You thrive in collaborative environments and understand how data quality directly impacts business outcomes.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server for data profiling, validation, and exception analysis
  • Familiarity with AWS data services (S3, Glue, Redshift, Athena) and/or Microsoft Fabric
  • Working knowledge of data governance concepts, metadata management, and data catalogs
  • Experience defining and maintaining data quality metrics, rules, and scorecards
  • Exposure to data pipeline validation, testing, or CI/CD automation is a plus

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Business, or a related field
  • 3–5 years of experience in data quality, data governance, or data analysis roles
  • Experience in insurance, financial services, or healthcare is a plus
  • Familiarity with regulatory or compliance-driven data environments preferred
  • Exposure to data stewardship or governance committee work is an advantage
