Job Summary
The Property Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring the financial integrity of a portfolio of Company-owned and managed multifamily residential properties. This position applies GAAP principles to prepare, analyze, and reconcile financial information; supports budgeting and reporting processes; and partners with Operations to ensure accurate and timely financial performance reporting.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare and provide financial statements, bank reconciliations, and other accounting reports that have significant influence on the financial results of the Company.
- Review budgets, revenue, expenses, invoices, and other accounting documents. Research and resolve discrepancies as necessary.
- Complete month-end close processes within established timelines.
- Process and post mortgage payments.
- Monthly reconciliation of General Ledger (GL) accounts.
- Post monthly accruals and reclassifications.
- Process and post monthly investor distributions.
- Process resident refunds.
- Process vendor payments.
- Submit capital expense reimbursement requests to lenders.
- Prepare and submit annual budgets and quarterly financial reporting packages to lenders.
- Assist Community Managers and Regional Managers with any accounting-related items.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Additional Skills & Competencies:
- Ability to read, understand, and analyze financial statements.
- Comprehensive understanding of accounting and finance (GAAP) best practices as well as relevant laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite. Intermediate Excel skills are required.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Ability to work remotely as a self-starter under minimal supervision.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting is preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in real estate, multifamily, or commercial property accounting.
- Full knowledge of GAAP.
- Experience with property management/accounting systems. Entrata is preferred.
- Experience handling sensitive and confidential information.
Physical Requirements:
- Constant need to remain in a sitting position for most of the scheduled workday.
- Constant need for visual acuity in small detail, beyond arm’s reach, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Constant need for talking and hearing to communicate with associates.
- Constant need to simultaneously use hands, wrists, and fingers to operate standard office equipment.
