Purpose
This position is responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations, supporting the month-end closing, and leading automation initiatives across a multi-entity, multi-campus organization. Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, the Accounting Manager will play a pivotal role in improving financial accuracy, streamlining workflows, and scaling accounting infrastructure to support rapid growth.

Job Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
- Accounting Operations & Close Process
- Manage general ledger activities, AP, AR, payroll accounting, and cash posting.
- Lead and coordinate the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
- Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Consolidate financial results across campuses and legal entities.
- Cash Reconciliation & Student Payments Automation
Assistant Controller
- Lead initiatives to modernize student payment systems and automate reconciliations.
- Partner with Bursar, Financial Aid, and IT to improve accuracy and reduce manual work.
- Implement tools and processes that enhance visibility and cash flow predictability.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Ensure financial statements are prepared in accordance with GAAP and DOE/Title IV compliance standards.
- Support internal and external audits, including year-end and federal compliance audits.
- Maintain robust accounting policies and documentation of internal controls.
Technology & Process Optimization
- Champion process improvements and system enhancements (NetSuite, Ramp, etc.).
- Identify automation opportunities to reduce manual entry and error rates.
- Build scalable workflows and reporting tools as the organization expands.
Team Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Act as a key partner to campus operations, financial aid, and the corporate FP&A team.
- Perform and complete other tasks that may be assigned by Supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor staff accountants, AP/AR clerks, and other accounting personnel.
- Assign duties, set deadlines, and monitor performance.
- Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and ledger postings.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required.
Experience/Skills
- Big 4 public accounting experience preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory roles.
- Strong command of GAAP.
- Proficiency in accounting systems (NetSuite preferred) and advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with cash application, payment systems, and reconciliations.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-growth, private equity-backed environment.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, performance-driven, compliance-oriented educational environment.
- Detail-oriented, analytical, highly organized, and able to multi-task and work well under pressure.
- Demonstrate a high level of integrity, strong work ethic, and professionalism.
- Persuasive and effective verbal and written communication skills, with a strong focus on customer service in an educational setting.
- Highly motivated and goal-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to work independently and as a collaborative team member and have exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Excellent computer skills are required with proficiency in MS Office applications including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams.
- Ability and willingness to work outside of regular work shifts, including evenings and/or weekends as necessary or as requested by Supervisor.
- Ability and willingness to travel locally and/or overnight for business purposes.
Schedule:
- Remote, Full-Time Role: Standard business hours, Monday through Friday, with preference for availability during Eastern Time (EST)
