Temporary Senior Data Engineer

Corporate Office (Central Park)

Pay Range: $52.35 - 65.43 per hour, based on experience 

Remote Eligible: Hybrid

 

General Purpose of the Position

The Senior Data Engineer will be primarily responsible for building and optimizing data pipelines, ensuring data is accessible, structured, and reliable for data analysts and business users. This role requires deep expertise in Snowflake, extensive experience with Talend, and familiarity with data modeling using Coalesce. The Senior Data Engineer will also be responsible for maintaining up-to-date documentation, enabling efficient troubleshooting and scaling of data solutions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (includes the following). May perform other duties as requested or assigned.

  • Data Pipeline Development
    • Design, build, and maintain efficient data pipelines that integrate and transform data from diverse sources into Snowflake for analytical and operational use.
    • Optimize pipeline performance to ensure timely data availability while minimizing resource usage and costs.
    • Implement data integration workflows using Talend to load and transform data efficiently, leveraging best practices for ETL/ELT processes.
  • Data Modeling and Transformation
    • Model and structure data in Snowflake to support analytical queries and reporting needs, with strong emphasis on schema design and efficient querying.
    • Utilize Coalesce for data transformation, ensuring clear, maintainable, and scalable data models.
    • Collaborate with data analysts and business stakeholders to understand data requirements, translating these into data models that are both efficient and adaptable.
  • Documentation and Troubleshooting
    • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all data engineering processes, workflows, and pipeline configurations.
    • Develop troubleshooting guides and documentation to support data quality and availability, streamlining problem-solving for recurring issues.
    • Establish automated data quality checks and alerts to proactively monitor pipeline integrity and data accuracy.
  • Cloud Architecture and Infrastructure
    • Work within Azure cloud infrastructure, particularly with Azure Blob Storage, to manage data storage, access, and security.
    • Optimize data architecture within the cloud environment, understanding Azure-specific data storage capabilities and best practices for scalability.
    • Partner with IT and cloud administration teams to ensure data solutions comply with enterprise security and data governance standards.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, or a related field. Master’s preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering or a related role, with a proven track record of building and maintaining data pipelines and data models.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE 

  • Snowflake Certification (Expert level) required, with deep expertise in data modeling, SQL, and performance optimization within Snowflake.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Talend, including setting up and managing complex data workflows.
  • Proficiency with dbt (Data Build Tool) and/or Coalesce for data transformation and modeling.
  • Solid understanding of Azure cloud architecture, particularly Azure Blob Storage, and experience working in a cloud environment.
  • Knowledge of data architecture best practices, with an emphasis on building scalable, reliable data solutions.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Exceptional documentation skills with experience creating clear, thorough, and actionable documentation for technical processes.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills, capable of identifying issues quickly and developing effective solutions.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, adaptable to changing needs and priorities.
  • A lifelong learner with a commitment to staying up-to-date on emerging data engineering practices and technologies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to sit for long periods.  The employee continually is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop and reach with hands and arms. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
