Lead Plastic Fabricator
COHO Consulting Group is seeking a Lead Plastic Fabricator to join our team at Robins AFB in Warner Robins, GA, in support of a contract requiring advanced manufacturing expertise. In this lead role, you will oversee and guide a team of fabricators to plan, layout, modify, and fabricate complex, one-of-a-kind items for experimental, developmental, or testing activities.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of fabricators, providing guidance on fabrication processes, methods, and techniques.
- Provide on-the-job training (OJT) to new and existing team members to ensure they are proficient in the use of fabrication tools, techniques, and safety practices.
- Supervise the development and implementation of OJT programs tailored to specific fabrication processes, ensuring all team members are equipped with the skills needed for complex tasks.
- Oversee the fabrication of prototype models for missiles, wings, ship hulls, and other unique items, ensuring quality and precision.
- Apply advanced mathematical skills to calculate loads, fits, sizes, and weights in the absence of detailed instructions, correcting design flaws as needed.
- Ensure the fabrication of items to extremely close tolerances while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Develop custom jigs and fixtures for holding, machining, and curing irregularly shaped parts.
- Oversee the setup and operation of trade tools, equipment, and measuring instruments to produce complex components.
- Innovate and adapt shop practices and procedures for unorthodox projects and new manufacturing challenges.
- Experiment with various techniques, curing times, temperatures, and pressures to establish new procedures for manufacturing compound materials.
- Recommend improvements to established manufacturing methods to enhance the functional characteristics of fabricated items and simplify processes.
- Plan and layout projects with hard-to-define reference points and manufacture master patterns and molds with complex geometry.
- Ensure all projects adhere to safety protocols and meet strict government regulations.
Essential Job Requirements:
Clearance:
- Must have the ability to pass a government background check, including fingerprints.
Required Knowledge/Experience:
- 20+ years of relevant experience in plastic fabrication, with leadership or supervisory experience.
- In-depth knowledge of composite and plastic material properties, along with their machining characteristics.
- Expertise in fabricating complex items with precision, including the use of advanced tools and equipment.
- Strong problem-solving abilities to devise creative solutions for unconventional manufacturing challenges.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to frequently stand, stoop, bend, kneel, reach, and work in challenging positions.
- Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing less than 50 pounds.
