Sr. Server Administrator
COHO Technology Solutions is seeking a Sr. Server Administrator who will support our customer at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard by overseeing the configuration, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise server environments that enable mission-critical operations. This role ensures secure, stable, and scalable infrastructure in support of the program’s objective to deliver reliable IT services. The administrator plays a key part in system performance, patching, incident resolution, and infrastructure modernization efforts.
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

Manage and maintain physical and virtual server environments (Windows Server, VMware, Hyper-V, etc.)

Perform system monitoring, health checks, and performance tuning

Install, configure, and update server operating systems and applications

Implement and manage patching schedules and security updates

Troubleshoot and resolve server-related incidents, outages, and performance issues

Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and other core infrastructure services

Create and maintain system documentation and standard operating procedures

Support disaster recovery and backup solutions

Collaborate with other IT teams on infrastructure design and upgrades

Ensure systems comply with security policies and industry best practices
Essential Job Requirements:

- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred
- Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, CompTIA Server+, or VMware Certified Professional (VCP) are a plus
- Experience:
- 7+ years of experience in server administration, with demonstrated expertise in enterprise or government environments managing both on-prem and virtual infrastructure.
- Expert knowledge of Windows Server environments (2016, 2019, or newer).
- Strong experience with virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V).
- Proficiency with Active Directory, Group Policy, and system security principles.
- Familiarity with PowerShell scripting for automation.
- Solid understanding of backup and disaster recovery tools and strategies.
- Experience with monitoring and management tools (e.g., SolarWinds, SCCM, or similar).
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and support a dynamic team environment.
