Machinist
The machinist will be responsible for receiving part drawings, 3D files, and NC Files from our engineering and programming departments, determine if any specialized tooling or fixtures are required, and then manufacture the parts with our CNC and manual machining equipment per the specifications required. The machinist will be responsible for any QA/QC checks on final parts, as well as documenting dimensions and QC hold points in a traveler. The individual in this role will report to the Pre-Fabrication Supervisor and will be responsible for completing jobs in a timely manner in accordance with the work schedule.
This hands-on role requires exceptional competence in all phases of CNC and Manual machining operations.
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Perform simple stock material preparation operations.
- Receive pre-programmed parts to run on various CNC equipment; make adjustments and offsets as needed to achieve a highly accurate and acceptable part according to supplied drawings.
- Identify parts that will need customized fixtures or setup; design new and unique fixtures as needed and set up new processes and techniques to complete parts as designed.
- Work within Pro-Shop ERP system to track, document, and complete work on schedule and in priority order.
- Work closely with the Pre-Fabrication Supervisor to improve the machining workflows while continuously improving procedures and processes for complex and unique designs.
- Must have a thorough understanding of different tools, equipment, and software that will simplify and expedite the machining processes.
- Capture and document red lines on drawings for deviations from the drawing.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace and keep machinery clean and maintained.
- Other tasks as required to support the company’s objectives and growth
Essential Job Requirements:
- Experience/Knowledge/Skills:
- The Machinist/Machine Operator will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a CNC machine shop operating vertical mills and horizontal turning centers. Candidates shall have experience working with various materials and setups and can demonstrate work and projects that reflect their skills. Experience with CAD/CAM and ERP software preferred, experience with FANUC Machine controllers preferred.
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, understanding drawing symbols and dimensional callouts.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, read production travelers, and adhere to standard safety and quality control procedures.
- Must have computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Must have an understanding of G-Code and ability to interpret NC files; ability to quickly identify feeds, speeds, and XY values to validate NC file prior to operation.
- Attention to detail and accuracy working within a fast-paced production environment.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50lbs.
- Standing for long periods of time, climbing up and down ladders, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching are generally required.
- Ability to work long hours, when required, to meet deadlines and other deliverables.
- Other Requirements:
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of the company, department, and contract
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills:
- Machine tool training certificates
- AAS degree in an applicable machine tool field
- Background in GD&T and an understanding of metrology.
