Medical Office Clerk (Labor & Delivery)
Coho Integrated Solutions is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Office Clerk (Labor & Delivery) to provide administrative and clerical support to the Labor and Delivery Department at Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. This role is essential to ensuring the smooth operation of patient intake, scheduling, records management, and general office support within a fast-paced clinical environment
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Welcome and assist patients and visitors at the front desk, information center, or office setting, ensuring a positive and professional experience.
- Answer incoming calls, assess the nature and urgency of inquiries, obtain identifying information, and refer calls or visitors to appropriate staff members.
- Apply clinic guidelines regarding the release of patient information and ensure compliance with privacy protocols.
- Schedule and arrange medical appointments, verify patient eligibility for services, and provide general instructions or referrals as needed.
- File laboratory results, X-rays, and other diagnostic reports into patient medical records prior to scheduled appointments.
- Maintain an organized and presentable waiting area, ensuring a welcoming environment for patients and visitors.
- Compile data and assist in the preparation of reports and recurring documentation.
- Provide orientation and guidance to Red Cross Volunteers and newly assigned personnel within the department.
- Perform a variety of clerical tasks, including typing correspondence, reports, and technical documents using automated systems, ensuring accuracy and adherence to formatting standards.
Essential Job Qualifications and Requirements:
- Citizenship:
- Proof of US Citizenship is required to work on this contract.
- Education and Certifications:
- High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalency or demonstrate clinical competency within the past two years
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Certificated through the American Heart Association/American Red Cross
- Experience and Skills:
- Minimum of six (6) months of recent experience (within the past year) in a medical office or healthcare setting.
- Proficient in administrative tasks such as scheduling, records management, and data entry.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and compassionate demeanor.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare documentation practices.
- Proficiency in the use of office software and automated systems for typing and data management.
