Medical Records Technician (Emergency Room)
Coho Integrated Solutions is seeking a Medical Records Technician (Emergency Room) to support high-quality emergency medical services at Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center in Fort Belvoir, Virgina. The Medical Records Technician will play a vital role in managing patient records, registration, and administrative support within the Emergency Department. This position requires attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to handle sensitive patient information in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Perform front-desk reception duties, including greeting patients, answering calls, and directing inquiries appropriately.
- Enter, manipulate, and retrieve patient information using MHS Genesis, the Ambulatory Data System (ADS), and Clinical Information System (CIS).
- Manage patient registration and ensure accurate data entry in alignment with departmental protocols.
- Coordinate patient hand-offs and ensure seamless transition of care documentation.
- Prepare and maintain hard copies of retrievable data and ensure records are complete, accurate, and up-to-date.
- Review database entries for accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
- Apply clinic guidelines regarding the release of patient information and refer inquiries to appropriate personnel.
- Record and relay messages, ensuring urgent matters are escalated to clinical staff promptly.
- Verify scheduled treatments and appointments; coordinate rescheduling when necessary.
- Ensure all required forms and documentation are properly completed and filed.
- Triage incoming calls and patient requests, determining the nature and urgency of each.
Essential Job Qualifications and Requirements:
- Citizenship:
- Proof of US Citizenship is required to work on this contract.
- Education and Certifications:
- High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalency or demonstrate clinical competency within the past two years
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Certificated through the American Heart Association/American Red Cross
- Experience and Skills:

- Minimum of six (6) months of recent experience (within the past year) in a medical office or healthcare environment.
- Proficient in data entry and management of electronic health records (EHR) systems, specifically MHS Genesis, ADS, and CIS.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to perform effectively in a high-volume, fast-paced clinical environment.
