Public Health Technician
Coho Integrated Solutions is seeking a dedicated Public Health Technician to support preventive medicine, epidemiology, environmental health, and occupational health initiatives in a military healthcare setting Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina. The successful candidate will conduct health surveillance, inspections, and investigations; provide health education; and assist in disease prevention and control programs in accordance with U.S. Navy Medicine, Department of Defense (DoD), State of North Carolina, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Conduct epidemiological investigations, patient interviews, and implement health education/control measures.
- Monitor rabies control program compliance.
- Assist in disease outbreak investigations and compile epidemiological data.
- Conduct food inspections in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Collect and ship food samples for laboratory analysis; complete detailed inspection records.
- Conduct sanitation evaluations, determine compliance with sanitary standards, and report deficiencies.
- Evaluate risks for vector-borne disease transmission.
- Collect and identify vector species.
- Educate military and base populations on prevention and control strategies.
- Perform occupational health assessments and illness investigations.
- Conduct duty location surveys to identify health concerns and recommend corrective actions.
- Provide program training and track compliance.
- Review fitness assessment surveys and retrieve relevant medical record information.
- Schedule patient visits as necessary and determine need for evaluation by a credentialed provider.
Essential Job Qualifications and Requirements
- Education:
- Associate Degree in Nursing, Allied Health, Community Health, or Public Health OR prior military training in a related field.
- Certifications:
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Knowledge
- Intermediate knowledge of U.S. Navy Medicine, DoD, State of North Carolina, and CDC public health programs, recommendations, and protocols.
- Working knowledge of epidemiological investigation techniques for communicable, food, water, and vector-borne diseases.
- Understanding disease processes, case definitions, diagnosis, follow-up testing, prevention methods, and reporting requirements.
