Director of Accounting
Copper River Shared Services is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Director of Accounting to oversee the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial data across a portfolio of companies. This individual will lead and manage the month-end close process, drive compliance with accounting standards and government regulations, and support operational leaders with accurate financial insights.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, hands-on experience with Deltek Costpoint, and prior leadership in a multi-company, shared services environment. This role requires assertiveness, urgency, and a strong work ethic to ensure financial performance is reported accurately and in alignment with GAAP, FAR, and company policies.
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Lead and manage the monthly financial close process across multiple companies, with a focus on revenue recognition and accurate financial reporting.
- Collaborate with executive and operational staff to review financial performance and ensure results are aligned with company objectives.
- Oversee daily financial operations in a shared services environment, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll/labor, project control, and procurement.
- Manage inter-company transactions, cash management, balance sheet reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements.
- Monitor project-level financial performance, ensuring compliance with contract terms, budgets, and cost allocations (T&M, FFP, CP, Progress Payments).
- Supervise General Ledger staff to support month-end close and financial statement preparation.
- Record journal entries, accruals, and adjustments to maintain compliance with GAAP and FAR.
- Ensure accuracy of unbilled revenue reconciliation and project revenue recognition in Costpoint.
- Support continuous improvement efforts to streamline financial close processes and enhance documentation of accounting procedures.
- Oversee accounts receivable and payable activities, support collections efforts, and ensure timely and accurate processing.
- Prepare, maintain, and organize financial records for audits, including government and external reviews; address audit findings and implement corrective actions.
- Lead accounting integration activities following mergers and acquisitions.
- Provide oversight/support for annual BPOL and local tax filings.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the Corporate Controller and organizational goals.
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
- CPA certification preferred.
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum of 3+ years as an Assistant Controller, Divisional Controller, or Director of Accounting within a government contracting environment (annual revenue > $100M).
- Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience with Deltek Costpoint, including revenue recognition and unbilled analysis/reconciliations.
- Demonstrated success managing multi-company month-end close processes in a shared services environment.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, FAR, and government contract accounting standards.
- Proven management and supervisory experience, with the ability to mentor and lead accounting staff.
- Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Prior ANC/Tribal experience is a plus.
