Resident Service Support Specialist (DWDM)
Coho Technology Solutions is seeking a Resident Service Support Specialist for 6-months to provide on-site technical expertise in support of mission-critical IT systems at Quantico, VA. This role is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing IT and transport network systems to ensure reliable day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with deep technical expertise in DWDM transport systems, strong system administration skills, and a commitment to delivering outstanding customer support in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Operate, monitor, and maintain Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) transport networks.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to optical transmission, equipment failures, and signal degradation.
- Provision, test, and integrate new DWDM circuits and devices.
- Collaborate with vendors and service providers to optimize performance and reliability.
- Provide first-line technical support for hardware, software, and network-related issues.
- Monitor and maintain IT systems, servers, workstations, and network equipment.
- Perform regular updates, patches, and backups to ensure system integrity and security.
- Install, configure, and maintain hardware, software, and network infrastructure.
- Maintain IT asset inventory and coordinate procurement, upgrades, and repairs.
- Support and document IT change management activities, including risk assessments and training.
- Ensure compliance with IT security standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare system performance reports and maintain detailed logs of support activities.
Essential Job Qualifications and Requirements:
Clearance
- Active Secret Security Clearance required.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in technical support or IT systems administration.
- Hands-on experience with DWDM transport systems, including provisioning and maintenance.
- Knowledge of optical transport systems and experience transitioning Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) technologies to DWDM.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in operating systems, including Windows, macOS, Red Hat, and Linux.
- Expertise with DWDM management tools such as Ciena Site Manager and Ciena Manage, Control, and Plan (MCP) Domain Controller.
- Strong understanding of networking protocols, hardware, and troubleshooting tools.
- Familiarity with IT frameworks and change management practices.
Certifications
- DWDM Transport certifications compliant with DoD 8140.03M (preferred).
Other Requirements
- Availability for occasional after-hours or weekend work to support critical issues or system updates.
