Heavy Gasoline Equipment Mechanic (Journeyman)

Copper River Technologies seek an experienced Journeyman Heavy Gasoline Equipment Mechanics to support vehicle and equipment maintenance operations for NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic facilities in Virginia Beach, Virgina. This position supports the Navy’s 3M Maintenance Program and requires skilled mechanics capable of independently performing preventative and corrective maintenance on a wide range of heavy and light equipment.

The ideal candidate will have strong troubleshooting and repair experience with gasoline-powered vehicles, construction equipment, generators, hydraulics, and electrical systems. Mechanics will work both independently and alongside Government personnel in a fast-paced mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on heavy and light vehicles and equipment in accordance with the Navy’s 3M Maintenance Program
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
• Conduct routine services including:
• Oil and filter changes
• Fluid inspections and replacements
• Tire repair and replacement
• Brake inspections and repairs
• Electrical troubleshooting and repairs
• Complete and sign 3M maintenance work reports documenting work performed, deficiencies, and recommendations
• Research and provide parts ordering information to Government personnel
• Maintain high-quality workmanship with minimal rework or quality deficiencies
• Follow all safety, environmental, and lockout/tagout procedures
• Assist with project schedules, cost estimates, and technical evaluations as needed
• Coordinate effectively with project managers, Government representatives, and team members

Equipment Maintained

• Mechanics may work on equipment including, but not limited to:
• HMMWVs (Humvees)
• MTVRs (Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacements)
• Bulldozers
• Front-end loaders
• Graders
• KALMAR Rough Terrain Cargo Handlers (RTCH)
• Forklifts
• Gasoline generators and light plants
• Buses
• Pickup trucks, vans, and SUVs
• Material handling and construction equipment

Essential Job Qualifications and Requirements:

• Education and Certifications:
  • Ability to successfully complete Navy 3M Maintenance Program training
  • Valid driver’s license required

• Experience:
  • Journeyman-level experience as a heavy gasoline or heavy equipment mechanic
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing:
  • Gasoline engines
  • Hydraulics
  • Electrical systems
  • Gasoline-powered equipment
  • Heavy tracked and wheeled construction equipment
  • Gasoline-powered generators

• Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel
  • Strong understanding of safety and environmental compliance procedures

• Preferred Qualifications
  • Military vehicle maintenance experience
  • Experience supporting Government or DoD contracts
  • Familiarity with maintenance documentation systems
  • Experience ordering parts and materials through Government systems

• Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy equipment components
  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work in confined spaces for extended periods
  • Ability to work around loud equipment and machinery

• Work Environment
  • Employees must wear company-issued uniforms and appropriate PPE, including:
  • Safety boots/shoes
  • Eye and hearing protection
  • Gloves
  • Hard hats
  • Traffic safety vests (as required)
  • Weather-appropriate gear
