Fire Alarm Mechanic

Copper River Technologies is seeking a qualified Fire Alarm Mechanic to help protect critical facilities, personnel, and property as a Fire Alarm Technician supporting Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command, Mid-Atlantic (NAVFAC MIDLANT). In this hands-on role, you’ll perform the installation, inspection, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm and life safety systems. You’ll work independently to diagnose system issues, restore equipment to proper operation, and ensure fire alarm systems remain reliable and compliant with applicable requirements.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Install, inspect, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair fire alarm and life safety systems.
  • Work with master fire alarm systems, fire alarm control panels, annunciators, initiating devices, notification appliances, detectors, modules, circuits, and associated equipment.
  • Diagnose fire alarm system faults and malfunctions using schematics, wiring diagrams, testing equipment, and manufacturer documentation.
  • Perform functional and operational testing of fire alarm systems and components.
  • Identify and repair wiring, circuit, device, panel, and system-level issues.
  • Replace defective detectors, modules, notification appliances, control components, wiring, and other fire alarm equipment.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to keep systems operational and reliable.
  • Maintain and update fire alarm circuit drawings, system documentation, inspection records, and maintenance records.
  • Verify proper system operation following repairs, testing, and adjustments.
  • Coordinate with facility personnel and other trades as necessary to troubleshoot and resolve fire alarm system issues.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior employees and trainees when assigned.
  • Respond to emergency and after-hours fire alarm service calls as required.
  • Perform limited electrical work associated with fire alarm systems and related life safety equipment.

Essential Job Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Licensure:
    • Valid state driver's license
  • Education and Certification:
    • A recognized fire alarm or fire protection qualification, such as NICET, journeyman training, or a comparable credential
    • CPR certification or ability to obtain and maintain certification
  • Required Experience:
    • Journeyman-level experience in electrical, electronic, or fire alarm systems
    • Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical and electronic systems
  • Required Skill and Competencies:
    • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code
    • Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings
    • Journeyman-level experience in fire alarm systems, fire alarm maintenance, or electrical/electronic systems, with significant hands-on fire alarm experience.
    • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting, testing, repairing, and maintaining commercial or industrial fire alarm systems.
    • Working knowledge of fire alarm control panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, circuits, and associated components.
    • Knowledge of applicable fire alarm codes, standards, and maintenance requirements.
    • Preferred: Familiarity with UFC 3-601-02, NFPA 72, and NFPA 25
  • Physical Requirements:
    • This is an on-site, hands-on position that may involve working outdoors, in equipment rooms, confined spaces, and at various heights. You should be comfortable lifting up to 40 pounds, climbing ladders, working in tight spaces, and using appropriate personal protective equipment. The role may involve exposure to noise, extreme temperatures, dust, and electrical hazards
    • Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching for extended periods.
    • Using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Additional Requirements
    • Employees must be available to work at assigned sites within their commuting area and may be required to support emergency operations, including after-hours callouts and essential personnel duties
    • Ability to pass a pre-employment and annual physical examination

 

Position Pay Range

$32.56 - $32.56 USD
