As Yablon Law expands its statewide practice, you will be crucial in supporting both legal operations and administrative functions. You will be integral to ensure we efficiently and effectively deliver Ritz Carlton-level of legal services.
Before law school, Mark redeveloped commercial real estate in Historic Downtown McKinney, Texas, and advised clients on insurance and investments. Excelling in college paralegal courses as a mature adult helped inspire him to become an attorney. Mark is a proud veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserve SEABEES, an alumnus of Baylor University Hankamer School of Business, and a prouder father of four wonderful adult daughters.
Under Mark’s leadership, our “WHY” is to become the law firm that Mark could not find or afford when he needed legal services. We integrate our legal knowledge and real-world insights to provide clients with strategic and empathetic winning representation.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter capable of managing multiple responsibilities to enable the lead attorney to focus on strategic initiatives, client development, growing the practice, and client advocacy.
What you’ll do:
- Inbox and Documents Management: Manage and operate the attorney’s inbox by categorizing emails and files into appropriate locations and following proper naming conventions. This ensures efficient organization, quick retrieval of critical documents, and consistency across all files.
- Manage Attorney’s Calendar: Expertly manage attorney’s calendar and promptly update it as you schedule appointments and tasks while you ensure no conflicts or uncertainties arise.
- Accountability and Problem-Solve: Be the attorney’s accountability partner by keeping meetings on track and tracking action items and deadlines. Identify challenges, proactively develop solutions, provide reminders, and help keep the attorney organized and focused on performing and building the business appropriately.
- Legal Document Preparation: Draft, prepare, and thoroughly review legal documents, including estate plans, discovery, court filings, and engagement agreements; ensure all documents uphold the firm's standard of excellence and adhere to court rules and deadlines with no margin for error.
- Electronic Filing: Take ownership of accurately and timely filing documents electronically in federal or state court with minimal guidance.
- Client Communication: Engage clients. Follow up on needed documents or information, schedule appointments, address inquiries, ensure all case requirements are properly completed early, and exceed client expectations when possible.
- Discovery Management: Manage the discovery process: requests, responses, production, and information organization.
- Legal Research and Analysis: Research the law, apply it to the facts, and craft compelling narratives to support case strategies.
- Pre-Litigation Case Assistance: Create and maintain client files, request or subpoena records, organize timelines.
- Court Support and Case Management: Support court appearances by preparing necessary documents, creating trial binders, and assisting with procedural and substantive tasks. Efficiently manage litigation and non-litigation cases with attention to detail, including downloading and organizing weekly docket sheets to ensure we are always prepared.
- Answer Phones: Handle incoming calls, check voicemail, and return calls promptly, ensuring professional and responsive communication with no details falling through the cracks.
What we desire in you:
- Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate with 3+ years of recent paralegal work or 6+ years of recent experience without a degree or certification.
- Legal Knowledge: Working knowledge of Texas or U.S. law (at least civil, bankruptcy, probate or family law), legal procedures, protocols, and the court systems.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced working knowledge of, or willingness to quickly become proficient in, plain English writing, new technologies, Office 365, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Westlaw, Clio CRM, state and federal e-filing, Otter.ai, Zoom, and AI generally.
- Self-Starter: Initiative. Thrives in environment with minimal structure. Independently identify and complete or delegate tasks. Take ownership without needing constant supervision.
- Intelligent and Excellent Problem Solver: Combine sharp intelligence with practical judgment and strong common sense to approach tasks logically, efficiently, and compassionately. Excel at tackling challenges head-on and fearlessly finding innovative solutions.
