At O’Brien+Ford PC, we provide strategic, compassionate legal representation to individuals and families throughout Buffalo and the greater Western New York area who have suffered serious personal injuries. With decades of experience in motor vehicle accidents, slip and fall claims, and catastrophic injury litigation, our firm stands firmly on the principles of personalized service, trial readiness, and client respect. We are proud to be a small, dedicated team of attorneys and staff who prioritize quality over volume, ensuring that every client is treated like a person, not a case number. When someone chooses O’Brien+Ford PC, they receive legal advocates who stay by their side from the moment of injury through recovery.
We are looking for an experienced Paralegal to join our collaborative and highly skilled team in Amherst, New York. In this essential role, you will support a caseload of approximately 75 to 100 personal injury cases by securing and analyzing medical records, drafting pleadings and motions, and coordinating with attorneys, clients, and providers to keep each case moving with clarity and care. You will work alongside three other seasoned paralegals in a close-knit environment that values follow-through, curiosity, and teamwork. This position is ideal for someone who brings legal precision and genuine empathy to their work, thrives in a respectful and focused workplace, and is eager to make a meaningful difference each day.
What you’ll do:
- Medical Records and Case Analysis: Secure, organize, and evaluate complex medical records to build strong case files. Identify missing documentation or treatment gaps and proactively follow up to ensure completeness and accuracy in case preparation.
- Legal Drafting and Filing: Prepare and file pleadings, motions, and legal correspondence in accordance with New York procedural requirements. Ensure all filings are legally compliant, timely, and aligned with the strategic direction of the case.
- Client Interaction and Case Intake: Engage with clients during intake and throughout the case lifecycle. Provide empathetic, informed communication to ensure clients remain confident, supported, and informed at every step of their legal journey.
- Case File and Trial Support: Maintain organized and up-to-date case files in both physical and digital formats. Assist attorneys with trial preparation, including exhibit indexing, witness list development, and preparation of courtroom materials.
- Team Coordination and Case Follow-Up: Collaborate closely with attorneys and fellow paralegals to ensure seamless case progression. Demonstrate strong follow-up habits, attention to deadlines, and a proactive approach to supporting the firm’s high standards of client service.
What we’re looking for:
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of paralegal or litigation support experience, ideally within personal injury or civil litigation. Familiarity with medical record analysis, pleadings, and motion drafting is essential.
- Legal and Medical Acumen: Confident in managing complex case elements, including interpreting medical records, identifying evidentiary gaps, and supporting attorneys throughout the litigation process.
- Organizational Strength: Proven ability to manage a caseload of 75–100 active cases while balancing deadlines, documentation, and follow-up with precision and poise under pressure.
- Communication Skills: Communicates clearly, professionally, and with empathy in both writing and speech, fostering trust with clients and working seamlessly with legal teams.
- Judgment and Team Fit: A thoughtful fact-finder with sound judgment, a low-ego attitude, and a genuine desire to learn and support others in a respectful, drama-free environment.
- Cultural Alignment: Committed to the success of a tight-knit legal team. Embraces in-office collaboration, ongoing mentorship, and high professional standards set by approachable leadership.
Why you should work here:
- Impactful Advocacy: Support clients experiencing physical and emotional challenges; your efforts play a vital role in securing justice and compensation that help restore their lives.
- Dedicated, Seasoned Team: Work with three experienced paralegals and six attorneys who deeply respect collaboration, learning, and each other.
- Professional Growth in a Niche Firm: O’Brien+Ford PC emphasizes personalized training, trial readiness, and a mission-driven approach, fostering a culture where excellence is both expected and supported.
Additional perks:
- Compensation: $60,000/year
- Benefits: Includes full health insurance (family coverage considered), 10 days PTO annually, and a 401(k) plan with 3% employer match.
- Location: On-site at Buffalo, NY.
