The Law Offices of John Phebus, PLLC, has been a cornerstone of legal excellence in Glendale for over 30 years, focusing on both personal injury and criminal defense. Our mission is to deliver exceptional results by providing personalized attention to each case. We believe in a hands-on approach, ensuring every client feels supported through their legal journey.

Our firm’s seasoned attorneys are known for their courtroom prowess, successfully representing clients in challenging cases. With a robust track record in both trial and settlement outcomes, we have gained the trust of thousands across Arizona. Our commitment to high-quality legal representation is reflected in our decision to maintain a smaller case volume, allowing us to focus intensely on each client’s needs and maximize their outcomes.

The Demand Paralegal role is critical to the Personal Injury section of The Law Offices of John Phebus, PLLC. This position owns the post-treatment settlement stage, ensuring completed files move efficiently from pre-demand through demand drafting, negotiation, lien resolution, and litigation handoff when settlement is not achieved.

This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, accountable, detail-oriented, and comfortable owning a file without being micromanaged. The right candidate knows how to draft strong demand packages, verify case details, follow SOPs, use AI as a drafting support tool without blindly relying on it, and push negotiations forward with confidence. Success in this role requires strong written English, excellent verbal communication, professional persistence, and the ability to build productive relationships with insurance adjusters and medical providers.

What you’ll do:

  • Draft Demand Packages: Prepare polished, accurate demand packages that follow firm SOPs and are nearly ready for attorney review with minimal revisions.
  • Review Case Materials: Review medical records, medical bills, liens, treatment history, and supporting documents to ensure the demand package is complete and accurate.
  • Negotiate Settlements: Negotiate with insurance adjusters to move cases toward stronger settlement outcomes, including knowing when to shift from email to phone conversations.
  • Negotiate Medical Liens: Work with medical providers to negotiate reductions and maximize client recovery.
  • Own Case Progression: Keep cases moving through the post-treatment demand stage without unnecessary delay or shifting responsibility back to teammates.
  • Maintain MyCase File Hygiene: Document all activity, notes, follow-ups, deadlines, and case updates in MyCase so the file status is clear and accessible.
  • Follow SOPs: Use firm procedures consistently when drafting demands, preparing documents, communicating updates, and moving cases forward.
  • Use AI Strategically: Use AI tools to improve efficiency while personally reviewing, verifying, and refining all outputs based on the actual file.
  • Prepare Litigation Handoffs: When settlement is unsuccessful, prepare the file for a clean handoff to litigation with organized notes, documents, and case history.

What we’re looking for:

  • Personal Injury Demand Experience: Direct experience with demand drafting, settlement negotiations, and post-treatment personal injury case work.
  • Strong Negotiation Skills: Comfortable advocating for higher settlement value, building rapport with adjusters, and handling difficult conversations.
  • Medical Lien Experience: Ability to review, track, and negotiate medical liens as part of the settlement process.
  • Strong File Ownership: Highly organized, self-managing, deadline-driven, and able to keep cases moving without constant oversight.
  • Excellent Communication: Strong written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate professionally with adjusters, medical providers, attorneys, clients, and internal team members.
  • MyCase or CRM Experience: Experience documenting file activity in MyCase or a similar case management system.
  • AI Judgment: Comfortable using AI tools strategically while still applying legal judgment, checking accuracy, and following firm SOPs.
  • Professionalism and Accountability: Hungry, growth-minded, thick-skinned, dependable, and willing to take ownership rather than shift work back to teammates.
  • Litigation Exposure: Litigation experience is strongly preferred because this role sits between the pre-demand and litigation stages.

Why you should work here:

  • Critical Case Lifecycle Role: Own a key stage of the personal injury case process and directly impact settlement outcomes.
  • Negotiation Impact: Use your advocacy and relationship-building skills to push cases toward stronger resolutions.
  • Process-Driven Culture: Join a firm that values SOPs, accountability, organization, and continuous improvement.
  • Technology-Forward Environment: Work with a firm that embraces AI and legal technology while still valuing human judgment and file knowledge.
  • High Autonomy: Step into a role where independent execution, strong follow-through, and ownership are valued.
  • Boutique Firm Environment: Join a firm that expects professionalism, strong communication, and high-quality work.

Compensation:

  • Compensation will depend on candidate location, experience, communication ability, and overall fit.
  • Global candidates are expected to be in the approximate range of $2,000–$2,500/month for highly qualified talent.
  • U.S.-based remote candidates may be considered, with market compensation expected to be substantially higher.

If you are driven by helping clients achieve justice and thrive in a collaborative setting, The Law Offices of John Phebus offers an exciting opportunity. Join us and contribute to a legacy of excellence—apply today to be part of a team that values your expertise and passion for impactful legal work.
