Mechanical Technical Lead

Remote

About Critical Facility Group
Critical Facility Group (CFG) is an MEP consulting and owner's project management firm specializing in data centers and mission-critical facilities. Our engineers and project managers design, build, and protect the infrastructure that keeps the world's most important systems running, from substations and power systems to mechanical, electrical, and telecommunications design.

We're a remote-first team of experienced professionals who value technical excellence, ownership, and collaboration. Most CFG roles are fully remote; our owner's project management team works on-site at client locations. At CFG, you'll work on complex, high-impact projects alongside people who care about doing the work right.

Mechanical Technical Lead

Remote (US)

Lead the mechanical design behind the facilities that keep the blinky lights blinking.

About the Role

Critical Facility Group (CFG) is hiring a Mechanical Technical Lead to own complex mechanical design projects from concept through construction. You'll serve as the responsible licensed engineer on your projects, establish the technical approach, and guide the engineers and designers supporting your work.

This is a hands-on senior technical leadership role focused on engineering excellence, project ownership, and mentorship rather than formal people management.

What You'll Do

  • Lead mechanical HVAC design for data centers and other mission-critical facilities, from basis of design through issued construction documents.

  • Establish design criteria and review calculations, equipment selections, drawings, and specifications.

  • Delegate technical assignments, establish clear expectations, and review the work of supporting engineers and designers.

  • Sign and seal engineering drawings as the engineer in responsible charge.

  • Coordinate with electrical, controls, architecture, and project management teams.

  • Respond to RFIs, review submittals, and resolve construction-phase technical issues.

  • Take ownership of technical quality, project deliverables, and deadlines while mentoring and developing other engineers.

What You'll Bring

  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in a U.S. state.

  • Typically 8+ years of mechanical HVAC design experience, including independently leading complex projects from start to finish.

  • Substantial experience designing complex, large-scale mechanical systems.

  • Proficiency in Revit.

  • Demonstrated experience delegating, coordinating, and reviewing the technical work of others.

  • Strong technical judgment, interdisciplinary coordination, and client communication skills.

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.

  • Ability to travel to project sites approximately once a month.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Data center or mission-critical facility design experience.

  • Comparable experience in technically demanding environments, including large healthcare facilities, cleanrooms, GMP facilities, laboratories, or campus central utility plants.

  • Experience with chilled-water plants, heat rejection, CRAH/CRAC systems, liquid cooling, and controls sequences.

Why Critical Facility Group

We're a growing team of engineers and project leaders focused on data centers and mission-critical facilities. At CFG, you'll have meaningful ownership of the projects you lead, the opportunity to solve challenging engineering problems, and a direct role in advancing the technical quality of our mechanical designs.

We value technical excellence, collaboration, accountability, and engineers who take pride in delivering work that makes a difference.
