Copy Lead Editor

Calgary

The Copy Lead Editor or Lead Production Writer will head up a team of Production Writers and Senior Production Writers working within a creative marketing agency. This writing team ensures that all work from the copywriters flows efficiently between the creative and production departments. The writers drive the on-time delivery of assets and act as champions for client standards, ensuring that all final customer-facing deliverables represent our client at its best.

In addition to working with copy deliverables, the Lead Production Writer will be responsible for managing the team, allocating team members according to project and client needs, meeting with clients to ensure their needs and goals are being met, and ensuring each team member is delivering excellent work.

You will:

  • Work directly with production writers, copywriters, editors, designers, brand, and product marketing teams to ensure proper execution of project deliverables, managing handoff of all copy to creative partners
  • Work alongside creative directors and producers to collaborate on priorities, resources, and upcoming milestones, and operate as a bridge between copy and our cross-functional partners, serving as a single point of contact during production
  • Manage the workflow for copy and other assets as needed, working with a team of writers and editors, and ensuring each asset meets client standards
  • Provide direct support to creative leadership and serve as a supporting partner in ensuring clearly defined processes and deadlines are achieved
  • Participate in post-launch analysis to identify wins and challenges. Carry findings forward to continually improve future project deliveries and execution
  • Define best practices in the content handoff process in partnership with other teams

You have:

  • 8-10 years of experience ensuring that copy flows efficiently between internal and external creative and production departments
  • 3-5 years of experience in managing a team of subordinates in an agency or media environment
  • In-depth knowledge of all steps required in the creative development process and able to effectively collaborate with creative directors, designers, strategists, and producers to develop work
  • A passion for editing and a deep understanding of the importance and power of well-constructed messaging
  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask projects, priorities, schedules, and deliverables
  • Flexibility to deal with rapidly changing, time-constrained launch schedules
  • A strategic thinker who can juggle multiple deliverables and work collaboratively with partners across internal teams
  • Focus and persistence — ability to problem-solve and operate in a sophisticated multi-stakeholder environment
  • A positive, enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn from team members at all levels
  • A strong understanding of the various applications and tools used in the digital production workflow, and the ability to master new ones quickly
