Freelance Associate Creative Director, Copy

Calgary

As an Associate Creative Director (Copy), you bring strong writing, sharp ideas, and clear thinking to every brief. You can take an insight and shape it into a compelling concept—then bring it to life across scripts, headlines, and integrated campaign messaging. You're comfortable developing and working with a brand voice, crafting spots, and working fast in a collaborative environment. Experience in automotive is a plus.

You’re a natural partner to art directors and a steady voice in internal and client meetings. You're flexible, focused, and ready to help develop great work that’s both creatively strong and strategically sound.

You Will:

  • Develop copy for integrated campaigns, especially video scripts, digital, social, and paid search
  • Partner with your art counterpart to create big ideas grounded in human insight
  • Craft writing that’s on-voice, clear, and purposeful—across all touchpoints
  • Lead messaging development, ensuring consistency across deliverables
  • Present ideas internally and to clients, with clarity and confidence
  • Work closely with producers and editors to shape video content through final delivery
  • Balance brand storytelling with retail clarity when the work calls for it
  • Collaborate with account and strategy leads to stay aligned with business goals
  • Be open to feedback and flexible with direction—especially in a fast-moving environment

You Have:

  • 6+ years of copywriting experience
  • A portfolio with clear, insight-led thinking and strong writing across formats
  • Experience writing for both brand and retail advertising (automotive is a plus)
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to shift between big-picture concepting and detail-level execution
  • Knowledge of video production and how to write for the edit
  • A sense of how to write for real people—not just clients
