YOUR ROLE
As a seasoned and strategic leader in media planning, the Group Director (GD) plays a pivotal role in delivering innovation, excellence, and measurable impact across all aspects of client work. This role is centered on fostering strong, long-lasting client relationships, anticipating client needs, and leading cross-functional teams to deliver cohesive, high-performing solutions.
As the steward of the “XM Product” — the GD ensures all work is grounded in a deep understanding of each client’s business, their target audience, and the nuances of their category. Your media expertise spans the entire ecosystem, including communications strategy, media planning and activation, measurement, and performance analytics
The GD serves as a strategic partner and trusted advisor, bringing insight-driven thinking to solve complex challenges and drive meaningful business results. You lead with a collaborative mindset, combining strategic vision, creative problem-solving, and operational excellence to ensure client satisfaction and long-term success.
Beyond client leadership, the GD is an active contributor to agency growth and culture. You mentor and develop talent, conduct performance reviews, provide timely and constructive feedback, and oversee thoughtful work distribution. You help shape a strong, inclusive team culture and actively participate in training programs, pitch efforts, and new business development. Through your leadership, collaborative spirit, and comprehensive media knowledge, you help drive both client success and the continued evolution of the agency.
Please note this role requires a candidate with proximity to our NY office. We offer a hybrid work setting with employees working onsite at our NYC office with flexibility to work from home.

- Leads relationships with clients and media/agency partners, building a positive reputation.
- Formulates internal processes to enhance team and productivity.
- Serves as a Happiness Catalyst, creating an enjoyable work environment, while encouraging healthy debate, and ongoing feedback from Crossmedians
- Creates holistic account connectivity and success, from media + creative integration to cross line of business communication.
- Leads staff training session and/or serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), advancing Crossmedian’s knowledge
- Identifies individual and team growth paths directly linked to client business goals and XM Planning Discipline goals

Focuses on a quality XM product, adhering to XM’s high standards.
- Advances Crossmedia media product delivered to all clients, fueled by a deep, holistic, understanding of advertising/media, identifying strategic limitations and opportunities that serve as barriers to optimal media performance.
- Quarterback of the planning process with a deep understanding of the unique value proposition of XM for each client
- Validator of the art and science of media plans– ensures connectivity of all quantitative reasoning in plan decisions, and accountable for holistic plan storytelling with strategic pull-through
- Possesses an understanding of each clients’ business that rival key client contacts.
- Leads POVs that advances the clients’ understanding of industry trends, new technologies/platforms, and future opportunities.
- Designs communications/media plans that are worthy of media awards submissions fueling strong industry and client recognition.
- Serves as the key collaboration agent with partner agencies, media partners, and in-house client strategy/creative teams.

- Client(s) feels a sense of partnership (vs. service-oriented relationship)
- Displays a high level of personal dedication and motivation.
- Contributes to XM culture.
- Participates in XM Training to enhance their professional growth.

REQUIREMENTS
- 10 + years of experience in media planning.
- A thorough understanding of the media landscape and how it’s evolving.
- The use of data and analytics to improve strategies
- Strategic leadership experience and an in-depth knowledge of each clients’ business
- Strong financial acumen
- Team management, including managing and mentoring team members.
- Experience participating in new business
- Strong listening skills: believes good thinking can come from anyone and any place.
- A team player willing to compromise their point of view in support of others.
Salary range $150k - $175. Commensurate with experience. Compensation is determined on the skills, qualifications and tenure of the applicant.
