As an Engineering Manager at Crunchbase, you will play a crucial role in leading our engineering teams, the driving force behind the products and services relied upon by millions of users. These teams focus on building a highly scalable platform and user experience, executing on the core features of the Crunchbase product vision. Your responsibilities will center around leading, guiding, and motivating engineers on these teams to create powerful products with enduring value.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Team Leadership and Growth:
- Provide mentorship and coaching to engineers, guiding their professional growth through clear expectations and regular feedback.
- Collaborate closely with the recruiting team to attract top-tier talent, sharing the Crunchbase vision and fostering a culture that aligns with our values.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Engage with Product, Design, and Marketing stakeholders to ensure velocity and execution at a sustainable pace.
- Work collaboratively with internal technical guilds to drive technical excellence goals, focusing on improving software quality and managing technical debt.
Team Building and Culture:
- Cultivate a diverse and engaged team, promoting a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
- Instill a culture of innovation and excellence within the engineering organization.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Team Oversight: Directly supervise a team to oversee their day-to-day activities and ensure alignment with company goals and standards.
- Performance Management: Conduct regular performance reviews, set clear objectives, and provide constructive feedback to foster professional development and high-quality work.
- Hiring and Training: Play an active role in hiring new team members as needed. Develop and implement training programs to enhance team skills and knowledge.
- Conflict Resolution: Act as a mediator in resolving any interpersonal or professional conflicts within the team, ensuring a positive and productive work environment.
- Resource Management: Allocate resources effectively, including managing work schedules, balancing workloads, and ensuring the team has the necessary tools and information to perform their roles efficiently.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong motivation to build empowered, excited, and productive engineering teams.
- Solid understanding of Computer Science and Software Engineering fundamentals and processes.
- Good understanding of current ML techniques and challenges with proven experience in building ML/LLM or other AI applications
- Motivated to keep up to date with new technologies and methods.
- Past experience as a Senior or Staff Engineer
- Proven ability to collaborate with and influence stakeholders, including senior leaders.
- Strategic thinker capable of managing complexity and conflicting priorities.
- Proven success in a fast-paced startup environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- 4+ years of experience in senior or staff Engineering roles.
- Expert in Python, familiar with ML related tools and libraries.
- Experience in ML or AI oriented teams/roles.
- Experience working with Data Scientists.
- 1+ year in management position.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Salary Range
$215,000 - $240,000 USD
