About the role

In the role of Principal Technical Producer for the Concepts Lab, you will report to the VP of the Concepts Lab.

We are considering applicants for the location(s) of Los Angeles, California.

As the Principal Technical Producer for the Concepts Lab, you will own the advancement integrity of the Concepts Lab portfolio and are accountable for moving initiatives from build to live environment and ensuring they are successfully delivered to customers.

You will operate with a high degree of autonomy on complex initiatives and serve as a trusted partner across the organization. Through strong technical judgment and production expertise, you will help improve the consistency and effectiveness of how early-stage work is run within the Concepts Lab. 

Core Areas of Responsibility

  • Translate opportunity spaces into clearly articulated problem statements and testable hypotheses
  • Identify the riskiest assumptions within each initiative and ensure experiments are designed to address them directly
  • Ensure initiatives entering development have clear intent, scope boundaries, measurable success criteria, and defined decision checkpoints
  • Draft structured documentation of hypotheses, assumptions, risks, and learning goals 
  • Prepare structured decision summaries and readiness signals before initiatives move to beta or production handoff
  • Document and evolve repeatable templates, playbooks, and operating standards
  • Manage A/B testing of initiatives and partner with data teams to gather insights to make clear go/no go decisions
  • Synthesize technical feasibility, experimentation results, and business impact into advancement recommendations
  • Regularly solicit feedback from stakeholders and downstream teams to refine processes and improve trust
  • Help move concepts through the Concepts Lab pipeline from idea to proof of concept, pilot, beta, and production handoff
  • Maintain clear understanding of learning objectives and readiness at each stage
  • Guide initiatives toward architectures and approaches that support downstream scalability and integration
  • Work with engineering leads and the Technical Program Manager to coordinate scope, constraints, and technical approach
  • Own the coordination efforts of a physical Concepts Lab buildout including ideation, implementation, and rotation of demo assets
  • Partner with the Director of Engineering to implement and manage a rotational engineering program within the Concepts Lab
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on early-stage operating models and experimentation governance

  • Concepts move efficiently from exploration to validation and get in front of customers with clear evidence and reduced or understood risk
  • Early-stage work shows increasing consistency, clarity, and speed across the portfolio
  • Go or no-go decisions are data-informed and well documented
  • Downstream teams feel prepared and aligned before initiatives transition to implementation
  • Cross-functional partners understand, trust, and feel connected to the Concepts Lab innovation process

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 15+ years of experience in technical production, program management, venture operations, or R&D environments
  • Experience running or supporting pilots, betas, or incubation pipelines with a strong emphasis on supporting live operations within a production environment
  • Proven experience partnering closely with Technical Program Managers and delivery organizations
  • Strong technical fluency and credibility with engineering teams
  • Ability to operate autonomously in ambiguous environments
  • Sound judgment around sequencing, risk, and readiness
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience in media, streaming, or gaming
  • Experience working in an innovation lab, incubation environment, or R&D organization
  • Prior experience supporting senior leaders in an operational capacity
  • Prior experience with hardware development, including working across the software and hardware boundary such as firmware, and partnering on reference designs or rapid hardware prototyping

About the Team

The Concepts Lab is Crunchyroll’s R&D and incubation group, focused on exploring new ideas, technologies, and experiences for anime fans. The team partners closely with engineering, product, and business leaders to test assumptions, build evidence, and transition validated concepts into delivery teams.

Our work spans early discovery through beta execution, with an emphasis on learning quickly, reducing risk, and setting teams up for long-term success.

The Pay Range for this position is listed. Actual pay will vary based on factors including, but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Crunchyroll’s Total Rewards offerings for employees. Other rewards may include performance bonuses, employer matched retirement savings, time-off programs, and progressive health benefits and perks.
