About the role

The Senior Global Tax Manager will support Crunchyroll's Global Tax function, with primary responsibility for global indirect tax and meaningful involvement in global direct tax reporting, compliance, and coordination.

We are considering candidates in Los Angeles.  

Key Responsibilities

Tax Compliance & Reporting

  • Lead and oversee global indirect tax compliance, including VAT/GST, digital services taxes, withholding taxes, and other applicable transaction taxes across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Prepare, review, and oversee indirect tax returns and related filings for Crunchyroll's global operations.
  • Manage non-resident VAT/GST registrations, filing requirements, and ongoing compliance obligations across applicable jurisdictions.
  • Review financial and transactional data to ensure accurate calculation, reporting, and payment of indirect taxes.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and service providers to ensure timely and accurate filings.
  • Support global transfer pricing compliance and reporting, including coordination of intercompany transaction data and local documentation requirements.
  • Support the Global Tax team with US and international corporate income tax compliance and reporting activities

Tax Advisory & Business Support

  • Serve as a key global indirect tax advisor to the business on new products, streaming services, platform features, commercial arrangements, and international expansion.
  • Analyze indirect tax implications of cross-border licensing, content acquisition, commercial partnerships, and other strategic transactions.
  • Assess VAT/GST registration requirements, taxability, exemptions, and compliance obligations associated with new markets and business activities.
  • Monitor global indirect tax legislation and advise Global Tax and business stakeholders regarding potential impacts.
  • Provide practical recommendations that balance tax compliance, risk management, and business objectives.
  • Support global tax initiatives, including Pillar Two / Global Minimum Tax requirements and other emerging international tax developments.

Tax Technology, Data & Process Transformation

  • Support the implementation and enhancement of global indirect tax technology, tax engines, ERP functionality, and e-invoicing solutions.
  • Lead special tax data configuration, testing, and validation projects to ensure accurate tax determination, reporting, and compliance across global systems and business processes.
  • Develop scalable global tax processes and controls to support Crunchyroll's expanding international footprint.
  • Lead or support significant global tax transformation and regulatory implementation projects. 

Audit & Controversy

  • Lead or coordinate indirect tax audits, tax authority inquiries, notices, and information requests across applicable jurisdictions.
  • Manage relationships with local tax authorities and external advisors, as appropriate.
  • Review audit positions, technical analyses, and supporting documentation.
  • Escalate significant exposures and recommend appropriate remediation strategies.
  • Support special projects and ad hoc tax analyses as needed.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Provide functional leadership across global indirect tax matters and coordinate activities across Accounting, Finance, Legal, Product, Engineering, and other business teams.
  • Lead cross-functional tax projects and ensure timely execution of complex global tax initiatives.
  • Manage and coordinate external tax advisors and service providers and ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other tax professionals and regional stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, scalability, automation, and governance of the Global Tax function.

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in Tax, Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of progressive tax experience, with significant experience in global indirect tax and demonstrated exposure to international/direct tax matters.
  • Combination of Public Accounting and SaaS, technology, digital media, streaming, or other subscription-based industry is strongly preferred. 
  • Significant hands-on experience with global VAT/GST and other indirect taxes across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Experience managing global indirect tax compliance, tax accounting, audits, advisory matters, and tax technology/process implementations.
  • Experience advising business teams on product launches, commercial arrangements, cross-border transactions, and international expansion.
  • Experience coordinating corporate income tax compliance and tax reporting with internal global income tax team. 
  • Experience with transfer pricing and intercompany transactions. 
  • Technical knowledge of global indirect tax, VAT/GST, digital services taxation, and cross-border taxation.
  • Ability to connect tax technical requirements with business operations and financial reporting.
  • Experience with ERP systems, tax engines, e-invoicing platforms, and tax technology solutions; NetSuite experience preferred.
  • Advanced Excel and financial data analysis skills.

The Pay Range for this position is listed. Actual pay will vary based on factors including, but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Crunchyroll’s Total Rewards offerings for employees. Other rewards may include performance bonuses, employer matched retirement savings, time-off programs, and progressive health benefits and perks.
