Construction Inspector - (FT - Hybrid)

JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Construction Inspector performs detailed inspections of multi-disciplined public works and infrastructure construction and maintenance projects; reviews plans, details, specifications, and other construction contract documents to ensure construction contract compliance; prepares project inspection reports; and performs related duties as assigned.

This position is available as full-time or as-needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review specifications and submittal requirements in construction contracts.
- Monitor and document the Contractor’s field construction work, personnel, equipment, activities, work conditions, and materials for compliance with the project plans, specifications and codes.
- Inspect for compliance with Cal OSHA safety requirements and contractors’ approved safety plans and storm water pollution prevention plan (SWPPP).
- Coordinate inspection and construction-related activities with contractors, utilities, and material testing technicians.
- Facilitate field issues with the Contractor and inform the Resident Engineer of variances in the schedule, contract, or any other issues.
- Communicate, provide information, and construction field support to the Resident Engineer and project team.
- Track and document bid item quantities: provide written recommendations for Contractor progress payments, and contract change orders.
- Maintain construction inspection field reports, photo logs, correspondence, and other written field documentation.
- Update and maintain project plans for record drawings.
- Drive to and visit job sites and clients.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Thorough knowledge of construction methods and specifications.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to anticipate problems and understand details.
- Knowledge of civil, structural and environmental design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of plans, specifications, and estimates.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record is required.
- Knowledge of:- Engineering, surveying, construction equipment and related instruments.- Construction materials, principles, practices, procedures and techniques.- Engineering measurements, scales, calculations and estimates.- Good communication skills.- Standards, specifications and regulations as it pertains to State, Federal and City requirements.- Computer application use and protocol.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work productively independently or in a team environment.
- Occasional overtime work is required throughout the year.
- Require walking, bending, and sitting.
- May require lifting up to 10 pounds.
- Must be able to travel to client sites and/or job sites.
- Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment with deadlines and multiple projects.
- Will require physical flexibility and dexterity, including the ability to continually stand, bend, stoop, reach, crouch and climb.
- May require standing and walking for long periods of time.
- Working with detailed, finely printed documents.
Salary Range
$74.52 - $74.52 USD
