Senior System Integration Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Systems Integration Engineer who will be a key technical leader within our embedded platforms and autonomous systems development team. This role supports United States Special Operations Command programs and advanced unmanned systems (UxS) initiatives, delivering highly reliable embedded hardware and software solutions for field deployment. The successful candidate will be passionate about pushing the boundaries of system engineering, system integration, and autonomous vehicle technology, with hands-on experience bringing systems from concept to production deployment.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Support the design, development, and deployment of embedded hardware/software solutions for Nvidia Jetson, Qualcomm SoCs, and other SBC/SoM platforms
- Perform board bring-up, hardware troubleshooting, and kernel-level development including device drivers, kernel modules, and device tree management
- Integrate drone flight management and autonomous systems management software
- Integrate fault-tolerant software architectures for DDIL environments, mesh networks, and BLOS communications systems
- Oversee deployment of STIG-compliant embedded software to production environments in support of DoD requirements
- Implement GitOps workflows (Argo CD/Flux) and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI/GitHub Actions) to continuously deliver infrastructure and apps to distributed, sometimes air-gapped environments
- Promote lab best practices, network topologies, and integration standards in compliance with DoD guidelines
- Coordinate, collaborate, and execute software and hardware integration exercises with customers, external vendors, and partner agencies
- Facilitate planning meetings, manage time independently to support scheduled events, and deliver after-action reports and whitepapers to capture lessons learned and drive improvement
- Design, develop, document, test, and debug new and existing software systems and/or applications
- Constructively participate in code reviews
- Analyze user needs to determine technical requirements
- Write technical specifications based on conceptual design and stated business requirements
- Analyze code to find causes of errors/inefficiency and revise programs, as needed
- Continuously learn, grow, and proactively advocate for improvement on behalf of the team and yourself
Requirements
Location: This position is fully onsite and requires work to be performed at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. Remote work is not available for this role.
Travel requirements: Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% for hands-on field testing, system integration, and deployment activities across different locations.
Necessary Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Active U.S. Government Secret clearance with SCI eligibility (TS/SCI). U.S. Citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
- Minimum 11-15 years of hands-on experience in embedded systems engineering, with direct experience on Nvidia Jetson, Qualcomm SoCs, or equivalent SBC/SoM technologies.
- Proficiency in C/C++ and Python or Rust, with demonstrated application in embedded and performance-critical environments.
- Proven track record in embedded Linux systems, including kernel driver/module creation, device tree configuration, and GPU driver integration.
- Strong background in CI/CD pipeline development and maintenance, with hands-on experience using GitLab, Nexus, and modern DevOps toolchains.
- Experience developing software in alignment with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) and other cybersecurity standards.
- Experience facilitating in PI Planning, Sprint Planning, and Inspect & Adapt events to ensure program alignment.
- Skilled in preparing and delivering technical documentation, including after-action reports, and whitepapers.
Beneficial Skills and Experience
- Experience in DoD programs and drone (UAS) development.
- Excellent communication skills, with ability to coordinate across customers, vendors, and partner agencies.
- Experience developing drone/UAS flight management software and autonomous systems management software.
- Expertise in designing and deploying fault-tolerant systems in DDIL environments.
- Familiarity with mesh networking, BLOS communications architectures, and secure software deployment in defense environments.
- Experience in MIL-STD-810/461/882E compliance, STANAG 4586, DO-178C, and DO-254 guidelines.
- Experience with air-gapped registries, offline updates, reproducible builds, and SBOM attestation in CI.
- Experience in debugging skills for hardware/software integration issues in embedded environments.
- Experience in scripting/coding such as Go, Python, or Rust for operators, CLIs, and automation.
- Knowledge of agile methodologies and experience in SAFe program environments.

Salary range
$185,000 - $200,000 USD
