You will work alongside Chief Engineers, Program Managers, and Solution Architects to develop and integrate software within the Collaborative Heterogeneous Autonomy Operations Software (CHAOS) and Collaborative Autonomy Cross-Functional Team (CA-CFT) reference architectures. The right candidate combines deep technical credibility, strong people leadership, and the ability to translate complex system needs into executable engineering plans.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers and technical leads across multiple autonomy and AI-enabled software programs.
- Serve as the primary technical and personnel leader for program execution - ensuring milestones, deliverables, and budgets are met.
- Collaborate closely with the Chief Engineer to review technical products, shape technical direction, and propose solutions to engineering challenges.
- Coordinate and facilitate Technical Exchange Meetings (TEMs), design reviews, and programmatic meetings across government, contractor, and subcontractor stakeholders.
- Support the integration of the CA-CFT reference architecture into ongoing UxSAI and CHAOS efforts, ensuring alignment with system-of-systems autonomy objectives.
- Oversee systems engineering and software integration efforts across cloud-native, mobile, web, and embedded platforms.
- Provide coaching, performance reviews, and professional development for engineering staff.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement within and across teams.
- Travel as needed for customer engagements, site integrations, and cross-program collaboration (approximately 15%).
Requirements
Location: This position is fully onsite and requires work to be performed at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. Remote work is not available for this role.
Necessary Skills and Experience
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a technical leadership or management role.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Strong background in software systems integration, autonomy, or RF-enabled systems development.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex DoD or R&D programs spanning multiple technical domains (e.g., cloud, networking, AI/ML, or embedded).
- Proficiency with modern software development practices - agile, CI/CD, DevSecOps, and microservices architectures.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with proven ability to collaborate across government, prime, and subcontractor teams.
- Active U.S. Government Secret clearance with SCI eligibility (TS/SCI).
- U.S. Citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Beneficial Skills and Experience
- Experience supporting or integrating autonomy frameworks.
- Familiarity with RF, EW, or networking systems and their interaction with AI/ML or distributed autonomy solutions.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, cloud-native microservices, and data distribution technologies.
