POSITION SUMMARY:  

The HPLC Lab Technician supports the Processing Manager in ensuring product quality by performing daily tasks such as testing, preparation, extraction, and packaging. This role is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the production facility in compliance with state regulations and company standards. The HPLC Lab Technician plays a key role in quality assurance by preparing and analyzing samples from Processing, Cultivation, and R&D. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dedicated to upholding laboratory standards, and proficient in operating and troubleshooting HPLC systems and lab equipment. This position thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced laboratory environment with a strong focus on quality control. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Develop and execute validation of analytical systems  
  • Operate spectrophotometer and viscosity meter for QC  
  • Assist in production; calculating requirements; assembling and weighing plant material and supplies for supercritical CO2 extraction: emptying of extraction vessels.  
  • Operating highly sophisticated extraction equipment; Processing concentrates and extracts   
  • Cleaning and maintenance of extraction equipment and laboratory facility following current good manufacturing practices (cGMP), and standard operating procedures; complying with legal regulations; monitoring environment  
  • Operating, maintaining, and making adjustments and repairs to laboratory equipment such as analytical systems, pumps, microscopes, balances, rotary evaporator, centrifuges, and other laboratory equipment   
  • Creating dilutions, HPLC diagnostics and repair, calibration  
  • Maintaining inventory records of supplies, materials, and equipment, and preparing requisitions as needed  
  • Storing supplies and equipment, and keeping laboratory, storerooms and working areas immaculate  
  • Washing and sterilizing laboratory glassware  
  • Performing clerical work related to laboratory activities such as word processing, record keeping, and filing  
  • Assist in packaging of final products as needed  
  • Assist in the training of other technicians  
  • Work with state licensed third party testing lab to ensure QC   
  • Perform validation of analytical systems in line with company SOPs. 
  • Calibrate and monitor the HPLC system, ensuring quality sample results. 
  • Prepare and test daily samples from Processing, Cultivation, and R&D. 
  • Maintain accurate records of sample results in EBRs, Smart Sheets, and Excel. 
  • Operate and maintain lab equipment such as balances, centrifuges, and analytical systems. 
  • Manage inventory of supplies and reorder materials as needed. 
  • Ensure the laboratory is clean, organized, and safe. 
  • Work with third-party labs to ensure quality control. 
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure timely sample submissions. 
  • Maintain compliance with company policies and state/federal regulations. 
  • Ensure processing operation is fully compliant with state and federal regulations  
  • Maintain analytical and other laboratory waste with registered waste disposal company while following state regulations  
  • Maintaining material safety data sheets for all department chemicals and products  
  • Assure that operation adheres to all business and industry license requirements.  
  • Maintaining strict inventory records of all plant materials, chemicals and equipment used in the laboratory and documents production by completing forms, reports, logs and records  
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

This position has no direct supervisory responsibility for others 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • or 1-2 years of lab or manufacturing experience. 
  • QA/QC experience with HPLC and GC analysis, particularly with Agilent equipment and ChemStation. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot lab equipment. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping. 
  • Knowledge of organic and inorganic chemistry. 
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations and analyze test results. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining compliance with regulations. 
  • Strong computer skills for lab systems, software, and documentation. 
  • Capacity to work independently and/or with vendors, perform troubleshooting and solve complex problems.  

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred  

 

 

 

Physical Requirements

  • Extended time standing, sitting, walking, bending, and reaching
  • Close visual focus required
  • This position requires the extended and repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers to cut and manipulate small objects
  • Required to stand for extended periods, lifting of objects regularly, and daily repetitive tasks
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds for 100 feet
  • Ability to work in an environment that is exposed to plant materials and strong odors

$32 - $36 USD
